Pcmia Card Not Fit New Computer

Featured Replies

i purchased a new laptop in the uk recently, i told salesman had to have pcmia slot for cat air card he said yes here it is. i did not have the card with me as it was in thailand. of course now i know it will not fit can i buy some kind of reader to use pcmia in express card slot. paid 12k for air card so reluctant to change it

Thanks

CAT will sell you a USB adapter for your card for about 1000 Baht

I expect you have the Merlin X720 which is what I have. It is not strictly called a PCMCIA card, but an Express card which is smaller. The USB models do not have he facility for an external aerial which is critical for me.

Actually I doubt it's an express card the OP has.

AFAIK there are no adapters from PCMCIA to express.

There are PCMCIA to USB adapters on the market, but they are very expensive, and not always work with all aircards on the market due to driver issues.

example:

At around 6,000 - 7,000 Baht it makes more sense to buy a new aircard!

PCMCIA to USB reader solves your problems

PCMCIA to USB reader solves your problems

Correct, but be careful, there's a fair few cheap ones around, but the only thing they do is read PCMCIA flash based memory, and not any other PCMCIA devises as used in laptops.

As I stated, I purchased the USB model for approximately 1000 Baht and it is sitting on the desk here beside me working well

Just noticed I scanned the French section of the manual by mistake, but you get the picture.

Nice, but useless to the OP.

You show us Express to PCMCIA and Express to USB.

The OP needs PCMCIA to USB or PCMCIA to Express, as he owns a PCMCIA aircard, informed the sales man that he needs a PCMCIA slot on his new laptop, but the salesman proceeded to sell him a laptop with an Express Card slot (which all current new laptops have).

The point is that the CAT modems on offer are either Express cards, or USB models.

Many people confuse Express card with PCMCIA, due to their similar apearance. If so then I hope the information will be useful to him.

Should the OP actually have a PCMCIA card which is not currently part of the CAT range then it may be of use to others who want a USB interface for the CAT modem. As stated above this is the only one that supports and external antenna so the USB adapter is needed for longer range with desktop computers.

Where does the OP is saying he is using CAT?

He just mentions aircard, of which there are plenty about, nothing to do with CAT.

I have one, PCMCIA, uses the EDGE network from either AIS, Dtac or True with virtual nationwide coverage.

I'm also one who'd be sad to throw it away when I buy a new laptop as those do not take PCMCIA cards, and I too paid over 10,000 Baht for the card...

Better not confuse the OP, not all are as tech minded as we are :)

Think you have got that backwards..

He owns an express aircard and has a PCMCIA laptop !!

Seems obvious from whats hes writing.

He just mentions aircard, of which there are plenty about, nothing to do with CAT.

Mentions of an aircard and a 12k purchase price..

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.. It usually is a duck.
