Help Requested Setting Up True High-speed With Airport Express Hardware

Hi everybody,

I hope a few of you might be able to help me.

I've enjoyed using TOT's internet service with the old speedtouch modem for a few years and had it sucessfully configured to work with my apple mac's airport express.

Recently we switched to True high(er) speed internet and they provided us with a zyxel wireless router-and-modem-combo.

I have no problem at all using True's internet with the Zyxel router but I just can't seem to configure it to work with my old speedtouch modem, airport express and snow leopard.

I have the same physical setup with the airport express as I had with my old TOT setup except I've updated the PPPoE username and password to reflect my True account details.

All that happens though is that the connection status stays permanently on 'connecting' and when I load my airport config program I am told that the PPPoe network is not found.

I've triple-checked my username and password. The physical connections are fine so it's either s setting I've overlooked or it's because my speedtouch modem isn't compatible wit hthe True service.

Can anybody shed some light on where I've gone wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks both for your help here.

Capealava - I have Airport Utility already and am fairly experienced with it.

Lopburi - This sounds like it might be significant. Airport Utility doesn't seem to allow me to set this and if I try to configure the speedtouch modem by entering the IP address into Firefox then there is no option to edit these settings. Do you know how I can change them?

I have no idea but I do know that both modems I have used (SMC and D-Link) auto setup had True using the wrong settings and I had to change them.

I gave up on this for the last few weeks and decided to try this again today.

I still have no idea how to get the speedtouch modem working with True but I managed to get true's wifi and router working with the airport system which is probably an even better solution.

1) Connect the true zyXEL router to the airport express using an ethernet cable

2) In the Airport Utility settings, change the internet settings from 'PPPoE' to 'Ethernet'

3) Restart Airport Utility and it'll tell you there's still a problem. Tell it you're using a 'bridge' and let it sort itself out.

4) Problems solved.

I hope somebody else finds this of use.

Best wishes,

Martin
