:) i have just finished an application for a shengen visa ,through the german consulate in bangkok ,i must say what a refreshing experiance , from the first to the last ,for a start they open earlier than advertised ,all the staff are helpfull and freindly, and the process was fairlly uncomplicated and free ,unlike the experiance and treatment that i received from my British visa service ,where only the applicant can enter the offices only to be greeted by obnoxiouse rude ,and unhelpfull staff ,who seem to get some kind of pleasure in giving you the run around ,

The consulate is likely to be more friendly than an EMBASSY of any countries.

I can speak of the Thai Embassy in LA as being just as rude as you have stated for the British Embassy.

Sorry,

but there is no German Consulate in BKK and no Thai Embassy in LA.

Embassies are in the Capitols - Consulates somewhere else.

:) If you are a glutton for punishment, try applying for a visa or just getting information at the American

Embassy, where you will get the full treatment evocative of Dr. Benway in William Burroughs' NAKED LUNCH.

All Thai females are presumed sex workers, and everyone is charged $100. even if they have no chance in

hel_l of getting a visa. To be fair, staffers treat American nationals almost as badly as they do Thais - God

forbid you should have the temerity to ask them a question! The last time I was there I needed

to get a US document certified, only to be told now the document now must be sent to the state capitol for

certification, thence to the State Department and from there to the Thai Foreign Ministry in Bangkok, I estimated this

procedure would take at least a decade, and i asked if anyone had ever completed the procedure successfully.

The Caucasian staff worker began to scream at me over a loudspeaker, and I have never been back. Very

undiplomatic , to say the least...

I have to disagree. I have been to the American embassy in BKK many times. For a variety of reasons, including getting my wife a fiance visa. They have always treated us great. Sure, they are rushed, and process tons of paperwork a day...but we were never mistreated. I emailed them several times during the fiance visa process...always got back a fairly quick response. Met with them in person just to ask what I should do. They pointed me in the right direction. When my wife was interviewed, she was treated very well...we were both actually surprised at how nice they were...even nice to the absolutely obvious sex worked another American was trying to get a visa for (which she got as we met them in NYC a year later).

Prices are high for sure. Paperwork is massive for sue. I have a stack of paperwork almost a foot deep for my wife's visa/citizenship process!

I don't know about LA but we are referring here to the Consular section which is inside the Embassy So there is a "Consulate" in the broad sense. It is a bit more obvious for the French Consulate as they are not in the same quartes but still the same situation
