Hi all

I’m trying to understand the car taxation system in Thailand and would very much appreciate your help.

My question: Is there a difference to the excise tax if the car is imported or produced domestically?

I understand that the excise tax depends on the type of car (suv, pick-up, van etc.) and on the displacement. But is it always the same, no matter where the car is from? There seems to be at least one exception: A car produced under the eco-car programme is only taxed with 17%. But if I import the same car, say, from India it is not produced under the eco car programme and I would have to pay 30% excise tax. Is that correct? Are there maybe other exceptions?

Again, thanks very much for your help in advance.
