November 20, 200916 yr Would there be any difficulties in applying for a 12mth multiple entry tourist visa before a spouse visa application. For my Thai wife and our 4 year old daughter both have thai passports in my name. Have been together for 5 and half years provided monthly support for this period, trips, photos evidence of relationship etc. Would the embassy be asking the question your compelling reason to return to thailand NB
November 20, 200916 yr Have they been here before ? It is usual for the embassy to issue a 3 month visa prior to the 12 month ME.....However the final decision is with the embassy, you can try and see how you go. She will still need to show a reason to return....however this may be covered by a statement from you in a covering letter or Stat dec.

No haven't been to Australia before. my plan is to obtain citizenship by decent for our daughter, apply for tourist visa, then arrange for spouse visa while in Australia, thought it might be easier this way since we are already married and have a child. however maybe im wrong. November 21, 200916 yr Hi, No chance of getting a 1 year visa an applying for spouse visa here in Australia. My wife is waiting for her spouse visa in Thailand at the moment.Same set up as you but she has been here 2 times 1 time 3 months and then 6 month but we did apply for 1 year.Got a son who got Australian citizenship by decent and an Aussie passport and that only took 3 weeks. The only chance you have is if the condition of NO FURTHER STAY is not on the tourist visa. Then you can apply in Australia for the spouse visa. But I am yet to see a tourist visa not to have the condition.Depending on where your wife is in Thailand. We have done all our visa's and citizenship/passport stuff at Vientine in Laos which I have found not to be as busy as Bangkok. And a top service.PM me if you would like contacts of the staff in the Laos embassy. They are great.

My partners second tourist visa a 12 monther didb't have the no further stay clause on it and we could have applied in Australia for her residency visa but decided against it. So it is quite possible to get a 12 month tourist visa which allows you to apply for spouse visa in Australia. I have no idea how common it is thou.

I have no idea how common it is thou. Personally I dont know of anyone who has done it that way.... Remember that the applicant must be in the country where the application was lodged for it to be granted...The 12 month ME only allows for stays of 3 months at any one time....the applicant will still need to leave the country unless a bridging visa is granted. The applicant will need to get the Thai Police clearance prior to leaving Thailand. Also the costs involved in doing the spouse visa application here are higher.

We were told we could get a bridging visa but it was more expensive and i wanted to go on hoidays so we decided against it but as i stated above it is possible.
