Dear readers,

Most of you have probably already read the news about the temperatures dropping here in the north with a couple of casualties already. I have just recently moved here from Bangkok and am teaching English from Siam Computer and Language Institute in Sakonnakhon but at a school 25 kilometers from here where there is a few thousand students that are fairly poor and I am sure the parents are not rich either.

Many people in the Issan region are quite poor and would greatly benefit from you sending some warm clothes. I am not sure if the government will do anything although I seem to remember them setting something up last year getting warm clothing to the North. However as you all know it will happen more rapidly if an expat is helping. Lol

I would be willing to have you send clothing (jackets, socks, hats, shirts, sweaters etc) to me at Siam Computer And Language School Sakonnakhon and I will make sure that they are delivered to these families in need. I will also try to coordinate with other schools and foundations here to distribute them to other areas that I cannot possibly get them to somehow.

I just read the post tonight and will need to ask the director in the morning if she minds having them delivered to our branch but I am sure she will be happy to help. (You would hope). Therefore I will post the actual mailing address on this same post tomorrow afternoon. You can also call me direct after 5:00pm at 089-250-1078 Tim. Or email me via this post.

Christmas is not really celebrated here in the north but I am sure that these people will be very happy to get these clothes etc. please do not send food or any other items, only warm clothes please.

I will keep everyone posted on how and where I will distribute the clothing as it happens. Please folks instead of having that big cold beer tonight buy an article of clothing and some postage while you are here. This is how the world spins.

Any inquiries please feel free to email me or call after 5:00pm

THANK YOU FROM THE NORTHERN REGIONS !!!!!!!!!

Hi,

I have probably a couple of hundren pounds of jackets, sweaters, fleeces and sweatshirts sitting in the U.S. at a friend's house in Oregon. I collected them from friends in Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California. I collected them with the idea of distributing them to a temporary Karen refugee camp in the mountains of the Northwest. I put the cart before the horse thinking that I could find a shipping company that would ship the stuff over here charitably, but no way Jose. It will cost over $400US. Anybody have any ideas to get a break on shipping? It has to be air, because with surface, the stuff will not arrive until the hot season. Call anytime, 082-767-2181.

Have you thought about getting in touch with the local branch of the airline workers union. Union people are always ready to help those in need and may be able to get you some free freight on those huge cargo aircraft.

I'm surprised Chang beer has not donated any blankets, or maybe they have and we didnt see anything on it. Usually when the cold comes Chang beer is out there giving free blankets to the needy.

I called the number for the Thai Red Cross listed below. The woman I spoke to said donations could be dropped off at their office at Henri Durant Road. She said from Rachadamri Road, turn right at Chulalongkorn Hospital, then make a 2nd right turn, which will bring you to Henry Durant Road. If you call the number listed, dial "0" for the operator, then ask for someone who speaks English.

The Thai Red Cross Society (Cold Weather Relief for Children in Remote Areas Project) *Address: The Relief and Public Health Bureau, 1871 Henri Dunant Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330

*Tel: 251-7853-5, 251-7614-5, and 256-4391, Fax: 252-7976
