gmac
One of the great incidental benefits of moving to Thailand was the escape from the commercialism of Christmas. Now, unfortunately, it has caught up with us over here. I shall be eating my Christmas dinner with the "Bah Humbugs" in the food court, or MacDonalds or wherever I don't have to pay an overinflated price for a poorly cooked, bulk produced meal! Commercializing XMas? And what about Easter, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, Thanksgiving and of course Valentine Day. 90% of the people are celebrating in one way or the other and they don't know what they're celebrating. But ok, regarding XMas: This period starts with the Advent, some weeks before the actual XMas days. Usually the XMas decorations will be set up on the 24th of December (a family-gathering) and will last until the 6th of January (3 Kings.....something). I'm just anxiously waiting for a commericialized version of the Islam sugarfest! Last year a friend from Europe came to celebrate New Year. Unfortunately, things went wrong and she came a few weeks later. A bit disappointed about the fact that we missed the New Year's festivities, we found an alternative: The Independance of Samoa Islands followed by a holy-day from Nepal. Lots of days to choose from. In fact, in the 3 weeks that my friend was here, we did have 15 days to celebrate some kind of event. Sorry to have singled out Christmas........only because it was the topic of this thread. I can truly say that I hate the commercialisation of them all and similarly, unilaterally boycott them all!! Bring on that Islam sugarfest, I want to ignore that one as well! KASABIAN
Christmas reminds me of really happy times growing up with the family, mum made it very special for all of us. I found it difficult to break that pattern when i left home and enjoy Christmas today as much as i did when i was growing up. Thanks mum you saved me from a life of being miserable about anything and everything!
yogi100
It's a big con to separate us from our hard earned. I'm glad when it's all over and we can get back to normal. I've spent my last 5 Xmases in Pattaya and ignore any associated festivities. I don't send cards or buy presents. Neither do I receive any form of Xmas greetings. Humbug. Well, while you wait for the coming of the messiah, why not do it on Soi 6? At least there you are sure to be helped to some cumming for yourself.
