Sunattee Nerngchamnong

BANGKOK: -- Prime Nature Group chairwoman Sunattee Nerngchamnong was shot dead Sunday. The billionaire left behind her husband Pol Maj Gen Piyachart, a former deputy metropolitan commissioner, and their three children.

The shooting took place right in front of the Prime Nature Villa housing project in Bangkok.

Sunattee dropped into the project's office for just an hour Sunday.

The project's security guards said the gunman wore a grey T-shirt and a hood.

"As soon as she drove by, he opened fire. Then, he immediately fled the scene on a waiting green motorcycle," police quoted a security guard as saying.

Although Sunattee was rushed to a nearby hospital, she succumbed to injuries hours later.

She was shot in her right chest, right shoulder and right rib. Her children and her relatives were seen crying at the hospital.

Prime Nature Villa is a luxury housing project. Many celebrities including Paradorn Srichaphan, Marsha Wattanapanich and 'Kalamare' Patcharasri Benjamas, have lived there.

Police are now investigating the case.

A .38mm bullet was found inside Sunattee's BMW sedan.

"We are going to check all security cameras near the scene," Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Maj General Uapong Komarakul said.

Metropolitan Police Bureau 4 deputy commander Colonel Anat Kedmanee convened a meeting of relevant investigators last night in a bid to solve this case.

Billionaire married to a police general??? :)

And "The Nation" also states:

"...was shot dead Sunday... Metropolitan Police Bureau 4 deputy commander Colonel Anat Kedmanee convened a meeting of relevant investigators last night in a bid to solve this case."

So it happened Sunday (today, I presume), yet the meeting regarding the incident was convened last night (Saturday night) even before the incident???

:D

Before everyone get's on The Nation's case, please remember that the text you see on their site if often sourced from the feed to the print edition, therefore the last night in this quote [meaning Sunday on the basis the paper is published on Monday].

More importantly condolences to the family.

Regards

PS No a .38 mm is bad reporting...

What's even a bigger shame is that a woman has been shot dead, her children have lost their mother, and some members have nothing better to do than moan about the newspaper. Have some modicum of respect for the family.

Another sad slaying. It's a pity the Nation seem to be getting more sloppy in their reporting details....

A .38mm bullet was found inside Sunattee's BMW sedan.

That's half the thickness of a toothpick. Obviously .38" ...RIP

Condolences.

The Nation should turn off the auto spell check and/or employ some native speaker editors. Rubbish newspaper.

How sad, my condolences to the family. A hi-so shot by a lo-so. Why? I wonder. Story will emerge no doubt.

Because the lo-so was almost certainly hired by another hi-so that had a business dispute with the victim. Sadly this is how many disputes are ended in Thailand. The contract killers families are set up nice before the killing, and it is understood that the killer will be caught and go to prison but his family will be taken care of as long as he doesn't talk. This is why I will never enter into a contract with Thais, and I worry about the hi-so Thai's and farang I know that do.

Just out of interest how did they make their billions?

if not inherited, than through corruption.

Shorty international journalists will sniff something on her - so far nothing on the net about her life (at least in english)

All too sad.

There are many possible or probable angles here:

as simple as just lost face for shooter as underling,

husband has history, she has history, business angle,

even unrequited love.... Scubbabuddha's reasoning, and on and on.

No doubt there will be something salacious for the newspapers.

A shame that any could have been a reason to shoot a wife and mother.

But it happens daily here, just with a Hi-So it makes the news papers.

My condolences to her family of course.

"Someone is really stupid to think they could get away with the murder of the billionaire wife of a Thai police general"

No more stupid than someone thinking they could rob a Saudi Prince of his massive jewel collection.........and get away with it!

Condolences to the family.. just very sad.

(As for respect though, I suggest that this particular newspaper would also be a lot more respectful if they didn't get every single number or date wrong. )

Then you have the bunch of idiot's in the other thread saying BKK is safe......sad

The Villas were constructed round the lake which was the old Sundown? Jetski circuit [mid '90's] which I recall was owned by the Pol Gen [family?]. The construction company was set up in '03 IIRC.

She's from an old Cholburi family with substantial real estate holdings and hence rental income. Not to mention that most folks usually don't have just one-two business interests as wealth building engines.

A billionaire sounds 'big' here but it's important to remember we're talking Baht.

MURDER OF BILLIONAIRE

Lawyer may hold key to motive of Sunattee killing

Published on December 1, 2009

Well-known businesswoman Sunattee Nerngchamnong was facing more than 30 lawsuits, which could have been the motive behind her murder on Sunday night, police said yesterday.

Investigators said they would have liked more information from Sunattee's lawyer, who remains unidentified, because she told him "almost everything about her real-estate business".

However, the lawyer "seemed to be holding something back" in his statements to them, they said.

Udomsuk police and detectives from Metropolitan Police Division 4 are working together to solve the murder, which they believe probably stemmed from her many business conflicts. Sunattee had earlier filed a complaint with Ratchathewa police about a death threat she had received, but no other details about this were available. A police source said Sunattee's relatives believe the murder was motivated by her business conflicts and said 23 lawsuits had been filed against her.

They added that Sunattee had filed a few civil lawsuits of her own against two or three individuals.

Metropolitan Police Division 4 commander Maj-General Somwut Wannaphirun said police found a hammock tied to trees 200 metres from Sunattee's home in a housing estate off Soi 11 of Sukhaphibal II Road. He said it was possible two men who had been using the hammock for two weeks before the murder were the gunman and the getaway motorcycle driver.

Police found a cigarette, an empty cigarette pack and a newspaper dated November 17 nearby. The two men who were using the hammock never showed up after the murder. Police believe the gunman was a professional, judging from the calm manner in which he approached her car and fired three shots into her chest before fleeing on a waiting motorcycle.

An autopsy report said one bullet pierced her heart and two others lodged in her chest and near her right collarbone.

The bullets were of .38 calibre and fired from an unknown type of handgun. A crime-scene investigation, a trajectory study and other enactments are being prepared.

Sunattee's husband, Pol Maj-General Piyachart, told police he knew little about any conflicts she might have had in her real-estate business or personal matters.

Royal Thai Police spokesman Lt-General Pongsapat Pongcha-roen said PM Abhisit Vejjajiva had ordered police to take special care of the case.
