Bus Udon Thani To Khon Kaen

Featured Replies

Am flying into Udon Thani airport and need to get to Khon Kaen.

Are there buses direct from the airport or do I need to go into town? Also what are the prices?

Last time I did that you had to get the Mini Bus into town and get the bus from there.

It is not expensive.

I doubt if there is any busroute at all in Thaild that could be named expensive. But you loose any time gains by flying into UDorn for going KnKN- a direct luxury bus ex BKK/Mochit runs ev 30 mins and takes 6 hrs-free food also doled out, which you dont even get on AirAsia. cost about 300/350 bt. That would be just as fast as your route now.

If you realise what you effectively mean by the cheapest bus: thats the 3d cl. rot thammada-fan, 2+3 seats, and mostly overcrowded with standee room only left. cost about 4 bt/10 km. MOst foreigners despise that so much that endless discussions are on this very forum about avoiding it. if youre very, very smart and dont want to give up on this airfare: the MAIN road-on which this bus passes and will stop if hailed-passes the airpt turn off south of Udorn=a wise man avoids going in+out same way into Udorn town

Why not fly to Khon Kaen instead of Udon?

Why not fly to Khon Kaen instead of Udon?

Air Asia = Cheap. :D

Thai Air = Expensive. :)

Does Air Asia fly to KK?

Nok Air flies to Khon Kaen but not daily.

Lots of buses from Udonthani to Khon Kaen from luxury air con express buses, such as Chan Tour, to the air conditioned and not air conditioned local Thai buses (orange and white) that make numerous stops along the way to pick up all and sundry. Chan Tour and the other one, 474 or something like that leave every four hours or so. The local Thai buses leave every hour or less from Udonthani.

You get the Khon Kaen bus at the baw kaw saw (bus station) in central Udon near the Complex. The Chan Tour and other luxury tour buses take you to the baw kaw saw #2 in Khon Kaen, which is about a ten-minute walk from baw kaw saw #1, where the orange and white buses unload and load passengers. Between the two bus stations are a number of good hotels such as the Khon Kaen Hotel, and Roma Hotel.

Oh, I forgot the prices, and there is no direct bus from the Udonthani airport to Khon Kaen.

Wrong.

Nok Air does not currently fly to Khon Kaen, only THAI Airways. (Although there has been some talk of Nok Air taking over some THAI domestic routes in the future, and this could be one of them.)

THAI Airways is currently getting about 2,400 baht for the cheapest fare (one way) after all surcharges are added in.

Good info Tilokarat........................The only thing I would add is:

If one uses Chan Tour, make sure you get a seat upstairs on their double deck buses!

Downstairs on a bus from Khon Kaen to Korat recently, was one of the roughest and hottest experiences I have had on a Thai Bus......................"For a supposed good quality bus I mean"

Was very dirty as well!

I think already stated, good bus service from Mo Chit to Khon Kaen about 360 Baht, air con, reclining seats, toilet.. very comfortable and a meal and snacks thrown in, leave every hour or so and it takes around 5 hrs.

Repeating the advice above, bus from Morchit to Khon Khen may be the best way.

If you take a plane, you'll take 1h taxi to Suvarnabhumi, 1hr for check-in, 30 min flight, and then, if you're lucky 1-2.5h from plane to Khon Khen on the other side (depends on how lucky you are). Total 3.5-5h, with no flexibility as to when to go.

The bus from MorChit takes 6h total time, you can go there any time (for Khon Kaen they leave very frequently). It is also more comfortable than taxi+waiting+plane+whatever. VIP-24 buses are close to airline business class comfort. Should cost 400-700 baht, hard to beat.

Chan tour can be hit and miss regarding quality, I prefer Nakornchai air.
