Western man killed after apparently jumping from 38th of Bangkok condominium

An unidentified western man was killed when he fell from the 38th floor of a Bangkok condominium building in what believed to be a suicide.

The man fell from the 38th of Q House building in Sathorn district onto the rooftop of an adjacent five-story building at 11 am.

Police found a ladder on the 38th floor that the man apparently used to climb over the wall and jumped down and found some cigarette butts near the ladder. Two pieces of paper with hand-writing believed to belong to the man were also found at the spot.

His body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Science Medicine for an autopsy.

Oh, if I looked up when going out to pick up food then I might have seen the jump...

Q House in Sathorn is a very nice place and not any low-cost rooms.

Let the speculation of his reasons begin...

Edit: oh, almost forgot...RIP.

:)

May he rest in peace.

As far as speculations go, let us not forget his family and loved ones might be looking for more information and read this. Let's not add to their grief.

Jump or pushed????

The poor poor man, I just cannot imagine what he must have been going through.

May he now rest in peace.

My condolences to the friends, family and loved ones.

Sad stuff, my condolences to his family, this could really happen to anyone, I've know some of the mentally toughest people in the world just lose the plot some day and give in.

Any idea of who he is or where he is from?

RIP

So...

1) The police jumped down 38 floors as well?

2) After the man jumped down he found some cigarette butts?

3) The Nation is better used as toilet paper if they only would stop using so much ink on it?

Perhaps if your first language was Thai you might suffer similar grammatical problems, cut the guy some slack.

The report at least does try to stick to the facts without speculation. Cause of death is not presented as "definitive" and the use of the term apparent is an improvement over previous news reports of such incidents where speculation and assumptions are presented as fact. I think it's an improvement and responsible reporting.

What? Can The Nation not afford sub-editors who can write decent English, correcting what the journos write?

Do please remember that you are in Thailand, cost of editing has nothing to do with it!

Good to see some contributors jump into this thread and build up their low post count, while at the same time demonstrating conclusively you don't need a brain to speculate wildly, stupidly and irrelevantly :)

Please direct your issues with the Nations reporting/editing to their own website & don't take this very sad topic off course with your issues.

RIP to the deceased & condolences to his family & friends.

I am wondering why an autopsy is required. Is it credible that the poor man was killed or incapacitated beforehand and thrown off the building?

My commiserations to family and friends.

2nd or 3rd this year on Sathorn Soi 1? It's becoming quite a dangerous street to live on..

If your living on that street dont forget to wear your helmet!

Thought jumpers only were a Pattaya sickness BTW?! :)

R.I.P

Well, the place is basically one stone-throw from Patpong, so... :)

Edited to add: above was written in jest, the proximity to adult entertainment has nothing to do with the jumps in general, more about losing family, friends, money, hope or just a positive outlook on life. in that regards, yes, one might feel that Pattaya has a higher number of individuals that might now or soon fit into the risk-category.

It does seem they should have at least written man DIES after jumping. Even in Thai saying man killed after jumping would be wrong.

This kind of thing was a weekly occurrence in Pattaya when I lived there a few years back... RIP

For want of a comma or period they get slagged.

Many of the proof readers are Indian and not western english speakers,

because of the declining world wide market for newspapers,

the Nation's budgets have shrunk much like many papers world wide.

The internet as given the print news a body slam, and there is a winnowing out of

staffs world wide. The Nation had to cut back and hire less fluent English speakers.

You would likely do the same, rather than go under.

This staff change also, not coincidentally, happened during the period Thaksin, as TRT/PM,

was giving a full court press to silence the pres writing anything negative about him.

The Nation tried to stand up to this serious pressure campaign.

At the same time Bangkok Post rolled over like a puppy under the pressure.

RIP the poor man also.

Always a tragedy when someone gives up hope.

Or if some evil event or act befalls them.

It's amazing in a sad way, how some readers here "analyse" and "discover" an article which wouldnt be too much different in Europe but here immediatly with comments like "why an autopsy", "did the police jump as well", "jumped or pushed"...

@JDietz

Why not apply for a job as writer?

People should be happy there are news in English. Are the Thai skills of everybody complaining here perfect, too? Someone made suicide, sad enough, but not worth a word for some.

RIP

Obviously the current level of English in the Nation is perfectly suited for you. And suicides are a dime a dozen around these parts, just stay around for a bit, you'll get jaded as well.

Obviously my earlier request to get off the editing ability of The Nation hasn't been taken note of. The next person to carry this pointless direction on will receive a 3 day holiday.

It’s obviously a sad case and condolences to his family. But what’s with Thai Visa and all the threats about banning, closing topics and putting people on temporary suspension. Isn’t this a free forum?

membership to thaivisa isn't a right & there are rules in place that you & everyone else agrees to when they signed up. If you have an issue with it take it up with [email protected] & not on this topic.

I am actually shocked that so many people pick up on grammer and spelling mistakes on a post which has let us know about a guy who has topped himself.

RIP to the poor fellow. I am wondering if they have named him as I know a few guys who work in Q Tower and hope it's no one that I know.
