I am flying to Udon Thani airport soon and then I want to get to NongKhai. What is the cheapest way? Is it best to go to the bus station from the airport ?. appreciate some advice and experience others have had.

yes, the bus will be the most economical way to NongKhai.

some time ago, Thai airways had a bus service from Udon to Nongkhai. you may want to check out the subject on the website. i.e bus service udon to nongkhai.

Last time i was there, 2 years ago, there were vans waiting at the airport whenever a flight came in to take passengers to Nong Khai. iirc it was 100 baht pp back then.

The taxi from the airport to the bus station is now 60 baht. There are many buses to KK, about one every hour.

Chok dee

the easiest way is to take the minivan at the airport 200 bt tuk tuk from the airport to the mall area in Udon ( where the bus station is) cost me 150 in sept. if you go minivan go directly to the stand by the arrivals exit and purchace your ticket and go as these fill up and there won;t be another till the next flight arrives

200 is excessive?

Try walking it, you might re-think your stance on a bit excessive

It is not an hour trip from the airport to town centre Udon. Except if you walk. More like about 10 mins. And the buses to Nk go mainly from the (new) bus station on Ring Road nw of Udon, not in town. And this one is closer to the airport. You should find telephone numbers to taxi at the airport, I think there are some posted there.

from Mut Mee Nong Khai guest house website:

On arrival at Udon Thani Airport there is a "Limousine" minibus service from the Airport which meets every Thai Airways flight and comes directly to Mut Mee in Nong Khai. Tickets can be purchased in the foyer of Udon Thani Airport and cost 100 Baht (2.50 US $). The trip from the Airport to Mut Mee takes approximately 50 minutes. Alternatively one can hire a taxi from the airport to Nong Khai which costs around 700 Baht.

I often fly into Udon Thani but pick up my car in the parking lot, so I don't know if this info is accurate.

Sorry, Marky. Most of us misinterpreted your request for the "cheapest" way to get to NK. We thought you meant the "best value". Whether it's 100 or 200 baht by minivan, if you have no luggage you could be on the first van out of UT and be in NK within 2 hours of taking off from BKK. But you asked for the "cheapest" method. Assuming you don't want to walk all the way (free), the cheapest way is:

Walk to the train station (less than an hour)

Wait for train. They rarely run on time but if you time your flight out of BKK right, you shouldn't have to wait more than 4 or 5 hours.

Then sit on the train for 2 hours from UT to NK.

Remember, you can only have one beer while you wait for the train, otherwise, you'll use up all the savings.

The reason the minivan drivers charge more in NK than Bangkok is that except for this run, there's almost no opportunity for other business.

900 bt taxi fare from Udon to NK is expensive 100 or 200 bt is pretty reasonable even for cheap charlie like me, and in september of this year it was 150 bt tuk tuk to the bus station in town or just take the train all the way from BKK amd save 1 night hotel room as well

AND..............Remember when you head back to UT from NK, if by bus, you'll land at the bus station on the ring road.

There you will find TUK TUK drivers that are closely related to their brothers in Phuket and won't in any way be "cheap" !
