Alright, I'm currently on a 3mbps TOT connection, and frankly, it's crap. Some (most) days, it's slower than a 56k modem.

I'm at the point where I'm about to swap ISPs, and I'm currently deliberating on either a 4mbps/1mbps 3BB Premier plan for 1,990b, or the 12mbps/1mbps True Premium plan for 1,900b. I mostly need the speed for torrents and online games, so most if not all connections are international. If location is a factor, I live along Rama 9, near Fortune Town.

Anyone has any experience with either package, or has any advise as to which plan I would get better latency/bandwidth with?

Thanks lots in advance. :)

(I did search and read through the various threads, but there wasn't a clear comparison between the two, nor advise on which plan to take. I also understand that generally, all the ISPs offer poor service. I'm mostly wondering which of the two are the lesser of two evils. :D )

Hi

I am using 16 mbps Premium Package in office and 4 mbps at home from true and both are working well so far.

I had one package from TOT but it was useless.

And one more thing, buy some good ADSL Modem / Router. Do not use the free one provided by the ISP or if u are tech savvy, atleast Flash them with the lastest firmware from the manufacturer's website.

Linksys WRT54GL with dd-wrt firmware is a good option.

I have 8 mbps with True and it is, indeed 8 mbps. I use a D-LINK DIR-615 wireless router and Linksys modem buried behind a mess of crap that I can't get to look at the model number.

I had a few problems setting up the router and modem called True to complain several times, but in the end I realized it was my fault in ever case.

Note that True may be throttling torrents, and are according to runs I've done with Glasnost. The beta version of a certain torrent client that starts with a certain greek letter seems to get around that however.

Good luck

maxnet have been throttling me all week and the only reasonably fast connections i get are the ones with u 2.0 beta using utp. Are you currently using 2.0 beta. Does it really overcome the problem.

Hmm. I guess it's back to True, then. I'm just somewhat cautious, because I used to have a True package, but it was terrible.

Timebandit, is your package the basic or premium one?

Thanks for the link, Phil.

Looks like I'm heading down to True later. Seems almost anything is better than the crappy 0.18mbps down speeds I've been getting lately. I'd probably be better off even with my PC tethered to my phone. TOT's line is crap.

Yep, that's it. Once I switched to 2.0 beta my speeds went way up.

Well, an update on this. Went down to the Fortune IT Mall True shop yesterday. Paid off some overdue bills that were somehow incurred at my old condo before I could cancel the line. Annoying, but no biggy. Everything else went pretty smoothly, they said to come by the next day to pick the router up, etc.

This morning, they called to say that they are unable to proceed with the installation due to more overdue bills. I ask them for the number that the bills were incurred on, and they replied with a number that's not mine. I've only ever had one number from True, which I've moved across three condos. The only reason why I didn't already have it with me, is that at the time of moving into this new condo, it hadn't yet got True lines installed, and I was forced to swap temporarily to the craptacular TOT.

Despite repeatedly tell the service person that I did not in fact own the second number, and had no idea whatsoever who/what the bills were for, she refused to continue the process, citing that the number came up on the computer during the process, as it was on the blacklist.

This is quite aggravating.

Well, on the way back to the True shop now.
