Does the airport in Bangkok still charge a tax on departure payable direct to the passanger?

My son who came yesterday had to pay a 100 baht servicecharge when he transited on Swampy? Anyone who knows what this is.

The tax never was paid directly to the passeger , the passenger always paid , and still does .
