I've got my eye on this phone, if I bring it over here will it work right away or will I need to have it messed around with by a lad in an IT mall? :)

I don't know about that phone but I unlocked my razr v3 and brought it over thailand.I put in A sim card and everything worked great.

Get THAT phone - then let 'a lad in an IT mall' mess around with it.

You won't need to know the time - time has no real meaning here in Thailand. He will be able to lose that function easily.

You won't need to know the temperature - it will always be simply 'hot'. He will be able to give you a static display of that !

Make sure you get Thai language support installed so you can receive all of the unsolicited 'offers' and can at least get a Thai person to translate them.

Get the 'lad' to make the unit a bit smaller and "sexy looking" as well if you can. Oh, and make sure it is capable of handling the temp/humidity fluctuations. The touch-screen phone I bought out here with me gave up after 8 months due to that.

Yes, your first 3 paragraphs are my prime concern(and comical), your 4th paragraph sounds more serious, are you saying that the phone you bought out with you was constructed differently to the phones on sale here? I have never heard of that before, let me know :)
