LCD Monitor Buying Advice

My current 19" LG LCD monitor (not wide screen) is slowly breaking down (flickering for a couple of minutes on startup), and I'm looking for replacement. Probably some 22-24" LCD panel, general purpose monitor for some graphics design, movie watching, and surfing the Web.

I went to Macro and found there a wide screen 23" TFT/TN 'Samsung 2333SW Plus' at THB 5,990.

Specs:

Pixel Pltch : 0.282 mm

Brightnese : 300cd/m2

Contrast : DC 50000:1 (1000:1)

Viewing Angle : 170x160 Vewing Angle(HV)

Response Time : 5ms

Resolution : Max 1920x1080

interface : Analog + DVI + D-SUB

Color : Glossy Black

Is it a good buy?

Are there better general purpose panels on the market at around THB 6,000 or so?

16:9 is fine for watching movies on a larger TV but when you are closer the extra width feels more comfortable for using a PC.

This, i dont understand.

My 23' acer is @ 1900 x 1080....it is full screen, what 'extra width' would i gain @ 1900 x 1200 ??

Its a wider monitor 16:10, instead of 16:9

Sorry Benjie, but it is a taller monitor - the vertical height is more which is my choice also as I don't use it to watch movies. Ratios are width:height.

Is it a significant difference?

If I understand correctly the 16:9 ratio is better for viewing movies.

My VGA card is ASUS eXtreme Nvidia GeForce N6600GT 128MB DDR3. Is it enough?

toptuan,

What OS and what graphics card are you using?

Have you tried watching movies?

It comes with a 3-year warranty, isn't it.

I'd be looking for a 1920x1200 monitor myself.

Why? :D

Thank you. :)

I'd use it for movies.

Samsung P2350....... Worth an extra 600bt?

Lots of good info here. I agree about the higher rez screens - that's what I buy too. 1920 x 1200. Agree Samsung all the way. Agree HDMI interface. There's a specialist Samsung dealer floor 2 of Pantip - near the escalator - the one going up. I usually buy the 12,000 baht kind. Pro series.

The best looking ones that I've see are the ones from Eizo, but they might be over budget.

Significantly over actually at that screen size (50k+ Baht. :) I've been looking for an IPS (S or H) lcd monitor as I don't think I would be happy with a TN panel at that large of a screen. Eizo are excellent but outside my budget. Trying to find a DELL U2410 but having no luck.

Myself think Dell is the best, they have come down in price since I bought mine it was 12,600baht but notice about 5-6 months ago they were around 7,500baht...... 1920 x 1200. HDMI interface..... I do have a Nvidia GeForce 9800GT 1GB DDR3 Graphics Card.

Friend has the Samsung, another has a Acer, the picture on my Dell is far better, no idea what Graphics Cards they have..

Bought mine at IT Seer Ransit.

The monitor you are looking at is fine. The price is good too. Unless you are specializing in graphics, it should be more than enough - your VGA card will let you down before the monitor will - and I bought a Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW for 8500 baht just over a year ago which is very good(I am into graphics, games, movies and run all 3 @ 1680x1050), now looked at the SyncMaster 2333HD DMI which has even better specs for the same price today, but can see very little difference between them(apart from HDMI) in either graphics quality or HD Movie quality. With the 3 year warranty, I will stick with what I have for another year. Go with what you are looking at if you are happy with it. In the end, why bother with all the specs drama if it does what you want.....thebom PS: I have 2x ATI Radeon 4850HD GPUs - DDR3 1x GB each@ Crossfired with HDMI outputs.

ignis,

what is the model number of your Dell monitor?

Dell 2407WFP 24-inch LCD monitor 12,600 baht at Seer Ransit back in November 2007, the brand new model now is a lot cheaper..

My old 19" LCD monitor I bought in the UK in 2000 a X10 made in China, colour not good, came to Thailand with it in 2003, and changed it for the Dell after 7 years [another friend had it and to this day is still working......... Yes made in China and still working coming up to 10yrs old]]

Hi, does it still carry the same model number? If so, it's still $400 on Amazon, or am I barking up the wrong tree? :)

As I said a newer model at Seer Ransit 5 moths or so ago was 7,500 baht

Here online http://www.invadeit.co.th/product.aspx?pid...3e-cb9347b40ff4 is a newer model and far cheaper than what I paid at the end of 2007........ So NO it is not the same model No it is 2 models newer.

Sorry I live in Thailand, so the cost of something in the USA or for that matter in the UK has no interest to me.
