Where To Start?

Featured Replies

Hello all I was wondering whether anybody could shed some light on this subject for me. I have been married to my wife for 6 months now and have been seeing her for about 5 years. And like every full blooded male would ideally like to stay in Thailand with her. But for obvious reasons I cant work or just dont think I could handle teaching, and have decided to bring her back to England as I have a good job here. Have spoken to my boss and he is happy to keep my job open for 6 months while iI travel to thailand. But how do I go about getting visa s and paperwork sorted. Also I am pretty set up in Bangkok and would need to ship back all my gear as it would cost a fortune to replace in the UK is this expensive?. As is the the tittle of this topic, Where to start???....

Thanks in advance for any help Bangbuathongben....

Hi Ben,

With regard to the visa you should complete the relevant application form which can be found here and submit this to the embassy along with your wife's passport and the fee (currently £260 payable in local currency). The embassy will then write to your wife within a couple of weeks giving her a date for interview. Bear in mind that this may be upto 3 months after the application is made.

You will also need to produce various documents in order to fulfil the requirements of the immigration rules. These have been discussed on many an occasion here and if you do a search you'll find a list. It is your choice whether you submit these either at the time of the application or interview but if they are to hand, I'd do so at the application stage and then at the interview show updated evidence.

Cheers,

Scouse.

The hardest part often is proving the longeivity of the relationship. With us they wanted copies of emails, photos, letters, postcards, etc. But once we married it was really a formality. Still err on the safe side and take every document relevant to your relationship. They honestly weren't as bad as I had expected, but that is probably because I was there, her first couple of times (she was alone) sounded pretty horrific.

Why would you need six months off work to arrange it all ?

Documentation, even hotel receipts and photos are like gold.

The more you have the better. Also keep your telephone bills and any Western Union Receipts.

Good Luck
