Gbp82 Million Project To Feed The Country's Rising Energy Demand.

Featured Replies

LONDON (Dow Jones)--U.K.-based independent power producer International Power PLC (IPR.LN) Wednesday said it will build a 110 megawatt, gas-fired power plant in Thailand, an GBP82 million project to feed the country's rising energy demand.

International Power said it had raised GBP76 million to fund construction of the new plant and refinance existing debt on the company's existing 143 megawatt plant adjacent to the new project, and will contribute GBP6 million from its own funds.

Last year, the London-headquartered power company said it continued to hunt for growth opportunities and was evaluating a number of new projects for potential development in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Thai project will be built by Jurong Engineering, a subsidiary of Japan's Ishikawajima Heavy Industries.

At 0804 GMT, the company's shares were down one penny at 317 pence.
