My misses has a new laptop with Windows 7 installed. She wants now to get a CAT CDMA USB modem so she can access the internet back in her families home. But visiting CAT today in Samui they were unable to tell us if these modems are compatible with Windows 7 or not. They all say can be used with Windows 2000, XP, Vista as well as Mac.

Has anyone any idea or had some experience with this. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a MC727 USB Modem from CAT , and run it with out a problem on, Windows XP , Windows 7 & Apple Mac leopard

ive posted how I got it to run on Windows 7 here... Windows 7

I have heard that some people who try and install the MC727 Drivers from the CD that came with the unit , have a problem , if so you have to download a different

version of Drivers from this link .. Driver-MC727

This is for The MC727 .

Hope this helps

Thanks TL, I have just been reading through your other post. I must say your detailed explanation of how you got it running is very helpful.

Its been a learning process , but in the end its worth it , instead of the old TOT dial up connection I had to use.,

Welcome to the World of the CAT CDMA Roller Coaster Ride :)

The manager at CAT in Nanton, Koh Samui, has the patch for MC 727 ( the one that Thailife provided the link for :D and was very helpful Thank you! ) .

I gave him a copy back in December & it should be on his laptop!

Perhaps not all the staff know, although I do know that 3 of them do! Perhaps the subject did not come up at their customer service meetings ! :)

Generally, I find them quite good on service there in Nanton.

I sent you a PM Silentreader, if you still need help.

Also just for info, CAT's EVDO hi speed usb modem (CCU-680) works straight out of the box in windows 7, also the installation files are on the modems flash memory in case you loose the CD rom that comes with it.

Speeds are capable of 3Mbits, average is 1.5Mbits, I've never tested below 800Kbit per sec.

Thanks for that Samuijimmy. My Misses went today and bought the Novatel Ovation MC760 which they say does work with W7. It is also noted on their website here as being compatible with W7. I don't think 2 days ago it mentioned this but they have just updated the site to include the new CATCMDA MiFi 2200 also.

I haven't tried connecting with the MC760 yet but will do later this evening when I get home. Will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Just a quick update, plugged in the Novatel Ovation MC760 and within 2 minutes it was up and running. Easy.

Thanks for the update , I would be interested in how it performs in the future weeks , and the speeds.

Thanks TL :)
