sunny747
HI, now i have lancer ecar (evo 3 style) with a small engine 1.3 4g13. I'm thinking of changing to 4g93 (non turbo) which is 1.8 cc. The garage quoted me total of 40k. 4g93 engine is built for my car so there shouldn't be any difficult mounting adjustment. 40k seems okie to me. But i don't know anything about the engine. they said they will get the best engine. How do i know it's a good engine as it would be second hand? what else shall i be checking while replacing engine? thanks for the inputs.
BSJ
If you can't see the donor car, and judge it's condition, or see the speedo there is only one thing to do. Have the mechanic compression test each cylinder and record the reading and test run the engine while it's on the hook (of the engine crane). You can look-up the compression readings and the average over all cylinders on the net (Usually 10% max). They need to plug in the wiring loom and computer but for a short run you don't need the radiator or exhaust. A lot of mechanics doing conversions have test systems anyway!
