Visa Run To Burma From Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

hey guys i am in chiang mai i need to make a visa run to burma, does anyone know a good visa run company who make direct runs. i dont want to do a tour package. any info would be appreciated. thanks

Get the VIP bus from Arcade bus station leaves at 8.30 then a Red taxi (with everyone else 15bht) to the border from the bus station. Quicker more comfortable and easier than any company. Good idea to get your ticket beforehand.

I did that same run to Mae Sai a few years ago, I hired a bigger, faster motorbike 250cc-400cc and departed at 6am. Great ride up, a few formalities and some cheap goods across the border turned it into a fun day. However on the way home I hit some major roadworks and limped back into CM between 7-8pm and very sore.

I went on a more scenice drive last year with some friends in a rented car back to Mae Rim, Golden Triangle and Chinag Rai. If you have the time maybe break the trip into 1-2 nights, as there are some great sites along the way.

Either way worked and even though the motorbike trip was a bit more tiring, it is the cheapest and a memorable road trip.

All the best

The Bus company is called "VIP".

No, VIP is a class better than first class, not a company.

the bus company is called the "green bus", it has first class and v.i.p seats on the same bus, both very comfy. departs chiang mai arcade 8am, arrives mae sai 12.30. you can return at either 1500 or 1600.

as previously mentioned, get your tickets in advance from booth in arcade bus station as it is usually full. red song thauw to the border for 15 baht.

if you plan to pay 10$ u.s. rather than 300bht on entering burma, make sure the

note(s) are in immaculate condition. they would not accept mine as it had a small ink mark on it.

happy travels!

khun jerry.
