OK, this was quite a saga, first we called the special branch police hq in bangkok to confirm that we needed to go to the provincial police. So, we go to the police stn in surat thani; first the amphur muang police send us over to the provincial police special branch guy, who doesn't have any idea at all. doesn't even know why we were sent to him. he sends us to immigration. we go to them, they said, oh, he's the right guy alright; try bangkok. except of course, bangkok told us it has to be done in our home province. so, home again the next day, we call bangkok again. this time get a woman who says, "oh no, you needed the amphur muang police", who, if you recall, had already sent us to the provincial police. so, next time we are in surat thani, or at least when my husband goes again, he will try the amphur muang police.

In the meantime, the phuket gazette has been looking into this for us as well and gets a reply :phuket gazette

However, we were told by both the man at the special branch in bangkok as well as surat thani immigration that dual was allowed as long as my home country allows it.  I have already been in touch with a fellow forum member who has acquired thai citizenship and has still retained his US citizenship, so this is obviously untrue. makes me wonder if anyone in the govt. really knows the score! However, apparently the income requirement is new since the end of august (when the new visa fees came into being). Also, the man at the special branch told my husband that I would have to be able to sing the national anthem. Hope they don't mind my tone deaf singing!

So, the result being: buptkis. zippo. absolutely nothing resolved except that we have to go searching (again!) for the right person who knows what they are doing! wish us luck. TIT after all. they didn't come up with that amazing thailand slogan from nothing you know!

sbk that sounds like a nightmare!

Good luck with it all and will keep my fingers crossed.

ps better start taking singing lessons  :o

thanks Nat, at least I know the tune!
SBK    true true...T i T  How about contacting the Pol Sgt Maj Suraphan direct.  Letter in parsar Thai asking for specifics as to how and where. If you were in Bkk it'd obviously be a lot easier. I'll ask about.
I can give you the english edition of the Anthems...trust me ...they won't ask you to do that      :o
