Belligerent
Good Day all, I have had a breif look through old threads but cannot seem to find what I am looking for. I am lucky enough to have the use of 1 Rai of land that backs onto my house in BKK. We are currently growing all manner of herbs, spices and vegetables. (My GF and Maid take care of this for the most part) We are trying out pumpkins. The runners took off eratically in an attempt to take over the garden. When the pumpkins began to appear, The team took it upon themselves to raise all of the runners. They are now precariously balanced on old sticks and branches. The pumpkins are now cricket ball sized and I am a little concerned that they will either fall off the runners or simply break the runners due to their increasing size and weight. My question is; is there any reason why the team raised the runners to keep the pumpkins off the ground? When I grew similar veggies in Venezuela, they were left to themselves on rhe ground. The soil was extremely sandy there though, if that makes any difference. Thanks a lot
soidog2
No real reason to raise them except if the land is prone to flooding ETC. Thai pumpkins are hardy, they will do fine on the ground; need a lot of room to spread out . Good luck Edited February 15, 2010 by soidog2
