Where To Go For A Quick Holiday With My Wife (thai)

Featured Replies

I fancy going for a quick trip out of Thailand with my Thai wife in early April. April 5th or around there as a departure date and for a duration of about four or five days. This trip will be a suprise so has to be somewhere Thai nationals and British passport holders don't have to get a visa in advance. My ideal budget for flights would be €150 each or less and would like to go to a place where €50 or less would get me a comfortable hotel. In the past we've been to Bali, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Phnom Phen and Siem Reap so a new place to visit would be good. We enjoy the usual things on holiday such as shopping, sight seeing especially religious buildings and ruins, a few beers, eating out at cheap places and not so cheap places, just the usual.

So does anyone have a sugestion or two. Of course I'm looking at Air Asia and othe cheap airlines to get ideas. From where we live Bangkok would be our departure airport.

Hello Vietnam its a nice place to go see Halong Bay beautifull Hanoi Ho Chi Minh manny place Phillipines Cebu enjoy your vacation

i like vietnam as well, but the op ask where Thai nationals and British passport holders don't have to get a visa in advance ! vietnam ask for visa.

KL my second choice but op allready been there

singapore i went there few months ago, and use this trip to buy a notebook

Spend a little more and give Perth a go :)

singapore

Hanoi / Halong Bay / Danang

Macau..believe Air A has special deals....but stay awy from casinos unless you wanna spend ..$$$

also Honkers is just a jet ski ride away.. :)

kota kinabaloo air asia vis kula lumphur to see the orang a tang sanctionary or labuan

Vietnam would be interesting, Hanoi offers a cooler climate and if you take the train up north near the China border town of

Lao Cai, there is a beautiful mountain resort called Sapa. Also not too far from Hanoi is Ha-long bay.

The downside in my opinion would be - if you use airasia, then you will have to choose either Hanoi or HCM and find other

arrangements to travel from Hanoi to Saigon (Ho chi Minh) city. Flying domestic on VNN Hanoi to HCM can be quite expensive so check your pricing before planning.

Why not try Sri Lanka Columbo. Its pretty cool and not expensive

On travel topic..

I'm looking to go from LOS to Surbaya Indonesia. Anyone been b4 and any recommendations on reasonable accomodations? What might I expect for a hotel and some entertainment?

Spend a little more and give Perth a go :)

Scotland is miles away................

Why not try Sri Lanka Columbo. Its pretty cool and not expensive

Seconded. Columbo is nice and stuff is pretty cheap there. Take a day or 2 in the mountains at Kandy and/or Nuwara Eliya.

Otherwise I would go with Macau...

Hey

Regarding Vietnam: it is by far the best choice

You may want to go to Ho Chi Minh back from Hanoi or vice-versa (or even stay in either cities/ of course visiting Halong would be great but that is only a budget problem)

Visawise, Thai do not need a visa (you do but 4 days are enough to apply and get the visa back 1800 baht)

Vietnamese people are very nice

Food is nice and unexpensive. You will not get the double standard depending on your Nationality by the locals (withstanding the government: e.g plane tickects) so you do not need to bargain for your day to day trîp (unless you want to buy souvenirs)

Hotels: wide range of nice ones at affordable price

As you have been around many countries I guess that it is a nice alternative

Macau and Hk are nice but a bit expensive and would be a bigger and busier version of Sian Paragon

By the way visit the Air france website and you will find all included flights at 6+++ economy (15000 business)

Try Luang Prabang (Laos). Nice, relaxed, friendly, and for 3-5 days an excellent destination.

I'm from Singapore and i think theres no real draw here, really. Theres the usual chinatown, arab street and little india which can be quite interesting, due to our mixed culture we have loads of chinese (taoist, buddhist) temples, indian temples.. Other places of attractions would be the zoo, sentosa island and the shopping district, orchard road but the prices for shopping arent as cheap as compared to Thailand. But i guess if you havent been here before you could always give it a go. Nightlife is very much alive, you can find cheap accommodations quite easily (lots of budget hotels, backpackers area around little india) and eating cheap is no problem if you dont mind hawker centres (food can be pretty good too). Drop me a pm if you need some advice on the little red dot :)

Thank you for all your replies.

To those that recommended Vietnam, you are right I must get round to visiting this country but not this time as I don't have time to get a visa.

Sri Lanka.... there are some good deals from Cathay Pacific and Sri Lankan Airlines both have flights for around 10,000 baht. Unfortunately both are really bad flight times flying in the middle of the night, which is not good for a short trip as we'd spend the first day recovering. When I have the time to stay for a couple of weeks then this appeals.

Laos.... yes this is on the cards in the future but will be a road trip as we live in Issan and have recently been up to Nong Khai so Laos will have to wait.

Macau.... definitely tempted. Nice architecture, fusion of European (Portuguese) and Asian, cheap electronics ( I want to buy a video camera soon). I'm probably going to stretch my budget for flights for the dates I have in mind but that's ok. Plus both of us have never been there.

Singapore.... neck and neck with Macau. Slightly cheaper flights for my dates and more flights to choose from. I've been to Singapore before and love it and would really enjoy showing the wife about. Sentosa Island, top shopping, drinking Singapore Slings in the long room at Raffles.

So it looks like either Macau or Singapore but I won't be booking until the weekend so recommendations still welcome.

Of course I thank you for your imput but I think Singapore or Macau would be more suitable for my needs.

I vote Hong Kong, too. Absolutely the BEST big-city vacation I've ever had. HK has something for everyone, including your list of requirements. Accessible via Air Asia thru Macau.

Maldives.

Take her to the cleaners mate, get in before she does.

I worked in Surabaya for 18 months, good budget hotel is Novotel, better class is Marriott or Hyatt. Beaches a short drive away. The active volcano Mt Bromo is worth a trip at dawn
