Desktop DVD Drive Recommendations

I want to replace my old internal DVD drive.

Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on what to get and what to avoid?

My OS is Win7.

I have had good results with WD drives and bad experiences with Maxtor and Seagate so my recommendation is the WD 6400 AAKS @baht 2100 or thereabouts,I am running this drive on my Win 7 desktop.

640Gb

SATA II

7200 rpm

Also good reviews on the various tech sites.

Get it from here www.jedicool.com for good service and backup

Is it hard disk or DVD writer?

Sorry,misread your post.

I have an Asus and Lite-On drive at present (DVD Writers) and both are ok,can read all dvd's.

Also had a Samsung, also very good.

If you have a SATA port on the mother board then go for a SATA drive then no need to configure Master/Slave.

I had/have Lite-On DVD-RW. My IDE version I had to RMA 5 times until I got a working one - they gave me a different model then. My SATA version IHAS424 I had to RMA only 4 times -2 did not work at all

In any case check a test burn with CDSpeed (Nero) if you have. There you can see the burn quality.
