I have been recieving SPAM porn email, like once-twice in a week, but not those subscription types which I think spams like 10+ emails a day. I think it is done manually, the process I think is like the dude sending me porn site is using some software to disguise his adddress. Is there such thing? I already know whos the person doing this, but no proof. Anyone can sort me out?

Get a Gmail email address, that will sort out the spam.

Since end-January I have 18,662 spam in my spam folder. Of that perhaps a handful made it through to my inbox. :)

also they send out dodgy web links.

Should i not click on them? I actually clicked and saw there site, advertising penis enlargement tools, porn dvds etc... :):D:D

i think it wont filter as spam, as the domain is [email protected]

XXX changes everytime I recieve same emails. Is there such software that allows to disgusise the sender address?

Are you for real? Of course, it is easy to set the sending email address to anything you like, including [email protected]. All spammers fake the sending email address. Anti-spam software don't look at the sending address but at the content of the spam and/or the sending IP address to determine whether it is spam or not. Don't click on the links. Most spammers include codes in the links that allow them to link the click to your email address, instantly moving your email address from the cheap "unconfirmed" pool of email addresses to the premium "confirmed".

I use a gmail account and maintain a contact list. Total spam in two years = 0 not one. Never open an email even from a friend that say fwd fwd fwd fwd fwd fwd fwd its spam and virus 9 out of 10. open five other accounts, when you need an address to log into a site your not sure of yet, use the other account. You can change the address later.

If the spam emails come from yahoo account, just contact yahoo they have links on how to report spam and email abuse.

I had to do it once and never received another email or spam from that account.

Just find out from which domain the emails come from, ie yahoo, msn, gmail or ???? and then contact them

There are many ways to avoid spam. Here are some simple tips:

1. Use more than one e-mail account; create one specifically for handling bulk mail.

I never use my primary e-mail address when joining forums, bulletin boards, private torrent sites or other subscription lists. I don't care what the fine print says; when you're on the internet, TRUST NO ONE. A very effective way to avoid spam.

2. This next one is a no-brainer... Never post your e-mail address on the web (duh). :)

If you need to (for whatever reason), post using an obscure format like "someone[at]domain[dot]com" or make use of images. If you run a website, learn to encrypt your e-mail address and avoid using the mailto link. These cannot be read by spam bots.

3. Use common sense.

Don't open e-mails from unknown sources, let alone click links contained within. << This is the dumbest thing anyone can do (no offense, btw). As someone has already mentioned, stay as far away as you can from forwarded mail. While these types of mail often contain humor and savory images, it's very easy to get your address into mass mailing lists.

well some of the links provided seems very interesting.

so when you visit their link, your email address is "marked" or put in some list?

what for??? do people make money out of this?

so getting yourself into trouble is not just from executing files. But visiting websites as well?

What are the harm potential of visiting those sites? WHen I visit some sites, sometimes it takes ages to load, I feel something is being downloaded and being installed... they could be like keyloggers?

Most if not all porn sites seem to have some kind of trojan that captures your email address and starts to spam

My best advice would be to use mailinator.com whenever having to sign up for anything online which you don't need for any other reason than gaining access to limited areas of sites.

Some websites deny emails from mailinator's domains, including thaivisa.com, but most smaller websites it works a treat.

If discussing this is against forum rules I apologize in advance, I wasn't sure but thought that since thaivisa blocks these mails anyway that it might be okay.

Precisely right,

Also I'd add always decline any "unsubscribe" links, as PC stated just adds you to a confirmed email recipient list(s).

It's been reported that at any given time, as much as 50% of global bandwidth is consumed by spam traffic.

I agree Phil. I rarely get spam with gmail, and when I do it shows up in my spam box, not my regular mailbox.

Another vote for Gmail here. You basically don't get spam, and you even have the option to set prefixes on your e-mail name (e.g. [email protected]) for use when signing up at sites that might send spam, then if it starts to arrive to that pseudonym you simply block all of that mail...

You can also get Gmail to forward mail from the account your changing from until people properly start using your new address. I have just made the switch to Gmail and am having it collect all of the mail from the Hotmail account that I've had for 12 years. I really didn't want to change my e-mail address, but am sick of Hotmail adverts, and actually once you get used to it Gmail is massively better than Hotmail - once you actually begin to appreciate all of the benefits and the way of working (that I can't be bothered to ecplain here - sick of typing already! - Google it!)

Make the switch - you won't regret it!

Another vote for Gmail. I don't get Spam in my Gmail account. I use Hotmail for things that require an email address. I must say that the Hotmail Spam protection is actually quite good now but use Gmail for everyone that I know.
