Just read here on Thaivisa from someone who installed "UBC Vietnam" in Chiang Mai......(ESPN, Star Sports etc)

Does anyone else out there know anything about this service? Sounds interesting to me.

Thanks

Hi there, to reply to your enquiry about UBC vietnam, first its not UBC or Truevision, or anything to do with them. Its Vietnam own high defintion satellite transmittimg from 132 degrees east on Vinasat . It has 43 channels of high quality programming although most is Vietnamese. There are 8 High definition channels of which ESPN is the main for english speaking viewers. The other 35 are a combination of Vietnamese channels with about 12 english speaking programmes including HBO, Star Movies, Star Sports, ESPN asia and AXN. These are subtitled in Vietnamese of course but you can turn those off. You require depending on where you live, a 60 -75 cm dish and universal lnb together with an Irdeto embedded cam receiver and smartcard. These are all available from www.satthai.tv for around 12900 baht, the card which is renewable yearly is 5500 baht. Much cheaper than Truevision subscription but far superior in quality pictures and sound. Little bit limited in channels for english speaking but hey how many channels do you watch on Truevision, one thing however no BBC entertainment. There are provision to install another satellite in 2012 with further channels.

Hey nmb47....I went to the Vinasat site but was unable to get a list of those English channels that you mentioned ie movie and sports channels (except for ESPN, National Geographic). Can you help me out there?

Hi there Ned, yes Lyngsat doesn't give a complete rundown on all the available channels so the best way is to go to www.satthai.tv website and click on the VTV HDTV item and you will get a complete list of all channels available. If you scroll down to the bottom and click the thai wording it will open with some further info about the satellite. Hope this helps cos since Satcodx went offline you can't get a proper listing of some satellites from Lyngsat.
