Gardens, Parks And Wild Landscapes

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am a landscape architect living in Bangkok.

Can anyone tell me where I can find a local nursery with native plants of Thailand?

I also would like to know if there is a nursery or botanical garden with rare plants from south east asia and pacific in general?

I normally find the usual ornamental tropical "worldwide" plants but I will be interested in using more indigenous species.

Thank you guys

The best place to start in BKK would be the Chatuchak (JJ) plant wholesale market open every Wednesday and Thursday morning. You'll find almost everything growing in Thailand and the vendors there can get you in touch with any nursery growing particular plants.

Have a Thai speaking person with you who is knowledgeable on this subjet !

There is also a big plant market in Chiang Mai where you can find most native plants growing in the north of Thailand.

I have found very little interest amongst Thai for indigenous landscapes. However, Chutachuk market would be a good begining like Opalheart suggested . Perhaps a visit to Nong Nooch. Locked away from the public they have some of the best collections of cycads anywhere in the world. Also a trip to Chaing Mai may be educational but without doubt, to get the best insight into South Eastern landscaping a trip to Singapore Botanical Gardens followed by a trip tp Penang Botanical Gardens (and maybe Hong Kong Botanical Gardens as well ) .

Hi greenthumb and everyone,

I think you should also contact other landscape architects and companies working here in BKK. But I don't know if they are going to help you because they are your competitors :)

What kind of landscape architecture do you do? Do you work only with contractors and big clients like hotels or do you also design gardens for houses and small clients?

Cheers

Thanks for that website quiksilva - there are are a couple more Botanical gardens for me to visit when ever i have the opportunity .

... more focused in small gardens for houses, even if in bangkok it would be more balconies and terraces!

I know a couple of contractors if you need some landscaping works....
