Hi all

Have surfed around this very comprehensive site and it looks like I could get some sensible answers to a few questions I have regards getting my girl friend to the uk. We are in the process of applying but there are a few questions on the forms that look like they could be a problem, the main one is how much money will your sponcer give you, now if we put say £50 per month would the officer reading the form see that as wages? that being the case the application would be refused, if we put zero would the offcer ask how day today comodities would be purchased by my girl friend, although she is going to have £300 in her own bank account. can any body give me advice on this one. I have sutible funds and accomadation for my girl friend and I plan to travel back to BKK with her after the six month visa. By that time my divorce would be through then we can marry and apply for a spouse visa. I know its a lot of questions but help me if you can

If filling the form in online, you may have to put an actual figure. If so, just put a token amount and then a note explaining this in your sponsor's letter.

Remember to put your future plans in your sponsor's letter as well; this will help with her 'reason to return.'

Thanks Guys for your good advice, I know the answer I am looking for is in the forum somewhere but to save a bit of time can anybody tell me if there is a set time for re applying if a visa is rejected. Also would a letter supporting my credentials from say a freindly MP have influence on the outcome. G

There is no minimum time between having an application refused and applying again. However, if you don't adequately address the reasons for the refusal, any second or subsequent application will only be refused again.

I don't see how a letter from an MP would have any influence over an ECO's decision. An ECO's function is to determine whether or not, on the balance of probabilities based upon the evidence submitted, an application meets the criteria for the visa applied for as laid down in the Immigration Rules, Entry Clearance Guidance etc.

A letter from a friendly MP saying what a good chap you are wont effect that; she either meets the criteria, and shows that she does, or she doesn't.

Anyway, it is the applicant's credibility that is of more concern to the ECO, rather than that of the sponsor.

ECB12.2 Undertakings from sponsors, MPs etc

Applications for entry clearance are sometimes supported by undertakings from a sponsor, Member of Parliament or other third parties. However, only the undertaking of a sponsor on maintenance and accommodation is mentioned in the Rules (see following sub-section).

Any other undertaking by a sponsor or any third party undertaking is unenforceable. No such undertakings should be sought by the ECO. Offers to provide such undertakings should not be accepted.

If an undertaking from a third party appears as an accompanying document to an application, the ECO may consider it as a factor, but without disproportionate weight. If an MP writes directly to Post in support of an application, Post should send an acknowledgement stating that when the application is assessed, the MP's letter will be taken into account together with all other available evidence.

Which I reckon is a polite way of saying "Put the MP's letter in the file and then look at the real evidence."
