I keep hearing that the majority of Thailand supports the red shirt movment, and the yellow is a elite minority. I personaly havent met a red supporter, plenty of yellow or at least simpathizers.

Can anyone provide any factual numbers to prove or disprove these claims? ; Im not interested in any red or yellow propaganda magazine articles or websites claiming numerical superiority, but a neutral estimate would be nice if such a thing exists. Im just supprised at the lack of mobilization and effectiveness thus far....From a group that has so much support, or portrayed support.

Another question i have about The red group is, what if any solutions do they have for the political problems of thailand? Whats their game plan if all the sudden they were to be in power? One would imagine that no mature politicaly vested individual would believe that takisn is anylonger a viable candidate. Yet no one ive seen has been pushed for the job..........

I believe that the past elections since 2549 (2006) might provide the factual data you're after. At present, there has not been an election set for this year, which might explain the lack of attention to publicity of the prospective cabinet members for the campaign to come.

In that election, just over 30% of voters voted for Thakin's lot and about the same for the Dem's. I think that it is safe to say that we can start there and work down for both groups.

tb86 - depending in what part of the country you live and with what people you mix.

when in thailand I am in bangkok, and from talking to people around me, they are mostly reds. All my family in and around bangkok are various shades of red, even those with military and police background (they are low rank or retired).

as to the popular support for yellows, than my stepson, who works as a security guard for a company run by the military protecting governmental offices, was ask last songkran and recently by his superior to attend counter-demonstrations to reds. He refused and is ready to quit the job or be fired, if pressed more. Some of his collegues are less independently minded and are following the boss, jus for the sake of keeping job and financial rewards.
