Best Way To Find A Cheap Place For Long Time Rental?

1: Which is the best way to find a cheap apartment for long-time renting in Thailand?

2: Is it generally more expensive when looking on web?

3: Is there some kind of "apartment-agencies" (not sure of the proper word) keeping lists of available places, and if so, how do they work?

4: Let's say one sees a building with apartments on a location one would like to stay, how do one go about to find out if there are any available apartments in that building?

In my case its leaning towards 1-2 months at a time (to see if I like the place) in either HuaHin, KohSamui or Phuket. (Preferably not far from the beach)

5: Do you know of any websites where I can browse for available apartments(or even cheap houses?) in those areas?

1. Walk around. If you see a place that you like, in a location that you like, walk in and talk to the manager.

2. Yes, if you are looking at an English language web.

3. Yes. I have no idea how they work, but I do know that they don't work for nothing.

4. See #1 above.

5. Maybe, put up a posting in the Local Forum for each of those locations here on Thaivisa. Probably best to give an idea of your budget.

1-2 months, hmmmm. :) That's definitely short-time. :D

Try TV classifieds, and look for Hotel California, cha am, nice digs & location for 12KB a month

Try craigs list and baht / sold for short time rentals.

I got my long-term house rental through Craigs list.

allane is correct, esp point 1. :D

If you don't speak Thai, make sure you take a black haired dictionary with you and chat up the security guards,

they know what's going on, it's about the only use they are.

"Security"..... :D

You'll pay premium rates for one or two months in Phuket, go for twelve or twenty four months and you can find some good deals right now, what's you budget?

you need thai handler. Even if you walk around and call you will double the price just by speaking english. I pay 15k/mo 2 bed and swimming pool, new construction. My neighbor pays 30k.

best advice I got before I came here. NETWORK LOCALLY.

I guess having a local front for you might get a better price but I've sorted my own places out each time and always been happy with the deal except my first appartment where utilities were extortionate once I found out the going rates. But I'd been here 4 days when I found that place. And it did its job well.

ride around the 'hood, don't be affraid to ask. Don't be affraid to haggle.

Thanks guys.

Hmm, I guess my new plan would be to spend a week each (in hotels to begin with) at several locations around Thailand until I've found a location where I can dedicate to stay for 3-6 months at least.
