If you live in Trang your nearest office is Songkla -very good service and will send EMS to you in about 3 or 4 days.

You probably know but you have to renew (in person) every 5 years - no more extend 5 years on the biometric ones.

Thank you for the replies. He could also get in done in BKK, especially if it is same day service. Where would this be at? Ministry of foreign affairs?

There are 3 locations in Bangkok, Chaeng Wattana being one of them. Have a look at this link. Apply in the morning and collect in the afternoon.
