Non-imm 'o' Extension

Recommended Posts

my present non-imm 'O' visa was issued here in the Gulf and will expire in January. I was thinking of getting an extension in BKK for purposes of getting a foot on the PR ladder of three years of extensions. I will probably still be working outside of Thailand for the forseeable future.

Question is: with an extension is one expected by immigration to reside permanently in Thailand? If not, could I do the 90 reporting bit while living outside Thailand?

thanks in advance...tutsi

1. One factor often mentioned in PR application is local tax payments which you would not have but assume this is just one factor of many so nothing lost is trying and conditions may change in any case.

2. You do not have to be here permanently but you do have to be here at the same time each year to apply for an extension and wait for approval (which is 45 days or so later) - so that might not fit your schedule.

3. Ninety day reports are not required unless you are in Thailand - you do 90 days from last entry so if you never stay longer than 90 days you never file. Each time you fill out an arrival (TM6) card it is the same as a new 90 day report.

thanks lop...looks like the 45 day waiting period makes this one a non-starter unless I was to leave and come back to pick up the extension...an expensive proposition.

thaiflyer...re-entry permit?...is that a separate application with different requirements?

Seperate application yes but no requirements to speak of other than the fee (1000 baht single entry and 3800 baht multiple entry).

Once you have the 1 year extension of stay you/ll need a re-entry permit if you are travelling in and out.

For sake of arguement if you were granted the 1 year extension on 1st June it will run through till 31st May next year............if you go out of Thailand during this period and re-enter with the re-entry permit it protects the 31st May date.

Best bet is to apply for it when you pick up the extension of stay.

The extension of stay will run until the day prior to your last entry. As you apply for an extension of stay during the last 30 days of a 90 day stay it will be about nine plus months from application date and only eight months from approval date the first year. Later years will continue to have this same date regardless of the specific day you re-apply or receive final stamp.

15 May enter Thailand

5 August apply for extension

20 September receive extension until 14 May

Your re entry information is correct in that the permit will have the same expiration date as your permitted to stay stamp and that date will be used on entry stamp when you return.
