Samui Suffering As Tourists Cancel Trips

Featured Replies

"According to Panu Woramit, director of the TAT office in Surat Thani, the Bangkok rally has caused tourists from China, South Korea and Japan to cancel plans to visit Surat Thani, while direct charter flights from China to Koh Samui had been cancelled since March 14, due to concern about the political situation and visitors' safety.

He said the number of foreign visitors to the province would drop even further if the rally were to drag on.

Of the 20,000 hotel rooms on Samui and Koh Pangan, only half are booked at present, he added.

Meanwhile, the number of countries issuing travel advisories cautioning their citizens about travelling to Thailand has risen to 40."

We (resort mid-Chaweng) are booked solid -100% April 2nd to 22nd...

Agree, many hotels are still doing okay to at least mid/end April.......Phangan as well......he hasn't been around lately....but sure it could get less if all this nonsense in BKK carries on.

Let us know after Songkran from May into June

After Songkran is always the low season.

Maenam looking good currently until end of April.

May and June still picking up a lot.

maybe due to tax reasons hotels and resorts are not putting there rooms on the books. lol thats why it looks half full.

everyone i know on the island is more worried about tax than lack of customers.

As for the chinese and koreans I can confirm from the clients I do business with that for them this is really bad because this is the time they make a lot of money from their customers as do I. I do know of 2 hotels one in bophut and chaweng that are good for next month but only because their customers are from europe or the UK and are not sensitive to the political situation. Although my business will most likely take a hit for next month and the month after I have always made sure to cover myself with enough reserves in the bank to get me through. If your a business owner you need to be prepared every year for some form of unrest and have money reserves to cover your business. I'm sure next year we will have something else to that will damage the tourism sector.

maybe we will get a new type of tourist. protest or war tourist. i am sure they exsit. lot of people in this world. though there is not much war or protests in samui. maybe there can watch a bit of war in bangkok then chill out on the beach.

truth is the type of tourists that will not be put off are not war tourists maybe another kind. just can't quite think which type. hold on !!!

Maenam restaurants certainly busier than I have seen them in months...

I was at Mae Haad/ Koh Ma beach, on KP the other day, that was as busy as I have seen in any January, when I used to stay there. Island View Cabana was full, as usual, but always seems to be regardless of the time of year.

Going by accents, Russians, Germans & French seem to be on the top of the list of visitors at the moment.

Good to see!

whats the plan of action Mr Churchill. how are we going to attack this problem. what shall we do to the torusist to make them come.

invite them to the beaches

invite them to the sea.

invite them in the sky

invite them to the parties

invite them to our bars

invite them to our boxing matches

invite them toour massages

we will invite to our deaths !

citizerns of samui the time has come for us to unite !

sorry modified a great speech. hope no one is crying!
