Hi all

My wife and I are off to Bkk in a couple of weeks to submit her visa application.

Question 2.19.. What language would you like the interview to be conducted in? ..Does having the interview conducted in Thai rather than English make a differance to the overall decision?

Does my wife need to have a good understanding of English language in order to recieve a settlement visa?

Thanks guys...

Mister mister is correct that it's not a requirement for your wife to speak English in order to get her visa. However, if the visa officer is so minded, and depending upon all the other circumstances, he/she may infer that the relationship is not genuine if your wife's English is non-existent and you don't speak Thai. But, as I say, it really is dependent upon all of the circumstances in the round. For example, your wife's lack of English will be outweighed by the fact that you've lived together for X amount of time.

hi there i agree with scouser it is best that you wife speaks some english so that visa officer can see you have a good relationship but it's not a requirement for your wife to speak English in order to get her visa.

the visa officer he/she may think that the relationship is not genuine if your wife's English is little or none and you don't speak Thai.

i think maybe speak some english and some thia ,but better i think if she can answer all in english.

hope this help's and good luck pete

I am alot more relaxed now. We have been together for 18 months now with photo`s,western union reciepts, phone bills etc to prove. When we talk (the wife and I) its pretty much always in Thai,as the family do not understand a word of english, apart from( OK, Hello).

Will I be asked any questions as to my Thai language knowleage?

Thanks for your advice and guidence.

Aiir,

In your covering letter you can say that you communicate with your wife in Thai. Unless he has reason to doubt this statement the visa officer will take it at face value.

Cheers,
