Thomas_Merton
Virgin Radio in the UK recently had a poll on the Best British Songs of All Time. Surely somebody can come up with a better list than this: 1. Oasis - Wonderwall 2. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody 3. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven 4. The Beatles - Let It Be 5. John Lennon - Imagine 6. Police - Every Breath You Take 7. The Jam - Going Underground 8. Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony 9. Robbie Williams - Angels 10. The Stranglers - Golden Brown Source: Virgin Radio
Rags
Not a bad selection of songs in my view. Although to be honest I am not sure that they are all worthy of inclusion in the 'Best 10 Songs of All Time' category....this one needs some thought...! Mr Merton - you have obviously had more time to think about this, what is your pick of the pops?
johnh101
All goods songs but I don't really think that "Going Underground" and "Golden Brown" warrant a place in the top ten of all time, top 50 perhaps. Where is "Love will tear us apart" by Joy Division or John Peel's all time best "Teenage Kicks" by the Undertones. My tuppence worth anyway. RDN
Virgin Radio in the UK recently had a poll on the Best British Songs of All Time...<{POST_SNAPBACK}> The name of this list should, of course, be "The Best British Songs Of All Time As Known To The 20 and 30-Somethings Who Listen To Virgin Radio and Can Be Bothered To Vote". Having said that, there are some very good tracks listed. But as for the Beatles plagiarists being no. 1, that's got to be a joke!

chownah
How about Beethoven's violin concerto...he only did one...after doing one he could see that he would never improve on his first one so why bother. How about Mozart's (boy if I can only pick one from Mozart it will be tough) Eine Kleine Nacht Musik. How about Radar Love...forgot the band. How about Group Grope by the Fugs. How about The Itsy Bitsy Spider by anon. How about the song with the lyrics "we love our queen" by that punk guy. How about anything by Michael Jackson.....better duck 'cause here come the flames. How about Suzie Creamcheese by Frank Zappa....oops..pedowhatsia...better not. How about Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. How about The Witch by the Sonics.....who were, by the way, the original punk rock band. That makes ten if my degree in mathematics serves me correctly. They are in shuffle replay order. Insight
9. Robbie Williams - Angels <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nahhh.....??? I really can't see the big deal behind that tune. It's more of a karaoke favourite in the pubs back in the UK. @ Rags - rattle, rattle, jewlery, jewlery, if it's not a nice little letter from a little boy (waving my cigar around venomously)... Neeranam
What?No Hank Williams or even the Dixie Chicks? I thought I mentioned old Hank, must have been another thread. I love "my buckets got a hole in it". He would certainly have one or two in my top 10. I heard an old one today that I had forgotten about - Roadrunner, can't remember who did it though. TRIPxCORE
Personally, I would replace the Led Zeppelin songs mentioned with "Babe I'm gonna leave you" and "Dazed and Confused." As far as British music is concerned, there is some really great bands that came from there. I love Coldplay, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead. ace
OK, I'll bite. Darn you Merton, I can never resist these top 10 songs conversations / postings, meaningless as they are. In no particular order: Bullet the blue sky - Sepultura Celebration Day - Led Zep Overkill - Motorhead What's next to the Moon - AC/DC The thrill is gone - Chet Baker Baker street - Gerry Rafferty Little Dreamer - Van Halen OK Computer - Radiohead -( It's like 1 long song if u ask me.) Come As You Are - Nirvana Alive - Pearl Jam Now I'm not one to criticise other people's tastes, but your selections are all rubbish and mine's best. Fact. Except Toddy's, which are pretty cool. Cheers, Ace
