I would like to have some made to order furniture (teak wood preferably) for the living/dining room. Where can I find a reliable carpenter or other made to order furniture shops in BKK ?

Despite asking specifically for Bangkok I do recommend you to contact Siam Old Teak in Hua Hin. They build teak furnitures out of reused teak in Burma with an amazing quality and good after sales service. They do also export to the UK, the USA and now also Australia I have heard.

The advantage with used teak is that it is dry and will not crack. The disadvantage with Siam Old Teak is their relatively long delivery time due to the Burma manufacturing.

There are some furniture shops around Phrom Phong BTS station opposite the Emporium along Sukhumvit in the soi 41 upwards areas. Get out the BTS and walk up Sukhumvit.

One of my mates had a chair made, the guys collected the old one and copied it - it's a western leather 'style' armchair, not a bad job - 7,500 Bt

The problem with lots of Thai chairs which are reasonably priced is they are too small - the back of the chairs don't go high enough to support your neck, not if you're 6' or higher anyway.

Thank you very much for the tip! It sounds really interesting. I am not in a major rush so I may very well go that route. Plus it is gives a nice excuse (if any was needed) to pay a little visit to Hua Hin.

:)

Cheers...

Thanks a lot for that. I will try and find this place as I actually do have a sample chair to duplicate.
