Hi, hope someone can help me out. Last year I arrived to Bangkok on July 7th, 2009 and the bars were closed on July 7th and 8th. They called it Buddha day(s). The only place I could buy beer was at Pizza Hut and at some small beer stands that opened up on Sukhumvit around midnight. All the bars at Nana and Soi Cowboy were closed for both days. Is there something planned again (Buddha Days again) for this early July that will cause all the bars to close again? I would like to plan my trip around these bar closure days. Thank for any help.... bkm

Well since your a newbie on the forum I'll cut you some slack. Here's how to find your answer.

Right now you're in the General topics subforum. Up above, in this subforum, you will find some "pinned topics" which are topics that are maintained permenantly because the questions are asked so often. One of those items is, " Public and National Holidays for 2010". It is a list of holidays celebrated and observed in Thailand. The information you want is in that list.

But since your a newbie, here is what I copied regarding your question from that pinned topic.

26 May 2010 (Wed) Visakha Bucha National Holiday

26 July 2010 (Mon) Asanha Bucha . National Holiday

27 July 2010 (Tues) Buddhist Lent (the start of)

So, botttom line, the holidays you refer to will be 26th and 27th July in 2010. Probably the bars will be closed those two days...the 26th of July in particular.

Even the bar girls get a couple of days off a year.

:D

According to my Buddhist calendar, Visakha Bucha is on the 28th not the 26th.

28 May 2010 (Fri) Visakha Bucha National Holiday

One of our calendars is wrong, I just dont know which one...?

You are quite right, Visakha Bucha day is the 28th May. Can someone please change the date in the pinned post.
