Buying a Blackberry or similar here in Thailand as they are quad band and I want to use in Canada

I was told that they have to be unlocked somehow to roam between bands i.e. from asia to North America. ( obviously will have to change SIM but will it automatically recognise same?)

Local suppliers either don't understand the question or are less than knowledgeable with the product....

Pretty much all phones sold in Thailand are "unlocked", unlike in the West where most people buy their phones cheap, but locked into a contract with a mobile provider.

So using your Thai blackberry with a different sim card abroad should be no problem at all...
