otherstuff1957
Hello Forum, I'm applying for a fairly short term job in Bangkok & for various reasons would like to do the monthly visa run, rather than try to get a work permit. My Question is, has anybody made the Visa run to Myanmar rather than to Cambodia or Laos? My fiance's family lives about a two hour drive from the Myanmar border & I could easily take a bus or get a ride to the Myanmar border when we're visiting them. Ugots2Believe
I made a visa run to Myanmar a few years ago; you'll need a visa to enter Myanmar and that embassy is in Bangkok ... which may defeat your intention (of staying local)
Rolling Stone
Not so otherstuff. I go to Myanmar at least once a month through Mae Sot for business. You give them $10 US or 500 Baht at the border on the Myanmar side in Myawaddy. I don't know of getting there though as I use a car service but I am sure you can at least get a bus there. Keep it real!
otherstuff1957
Many thanks Rolling Stone! Myawaddy happens to be the closest Myanmar town to my girlfriends house (in Thung Siliam - about 40km NW of Sukothai). It would be very convenient if I could combine our monthly visit to them with a visa run! Is there anything I need to bring or do aside from my passport and 500baht? Any further advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

If you get sprung working without a visa and WP it is farewell to old Thailand forever. It is deportation and blacklisting. As long as you know what consequences there are before you start out. Thetyim
I hope you understand that a work permit is not optional. You will be working illegally and subject to fine/deportment if caught Up to you, just trying to help
chopsticks
$5 in US (crisp $5 bill is recommended) is required for the Visa/Tourist stamp from Myranmar. (At least down here near Phuket). Gets you a 2 day Myranmar visa.
