Locals in the Bang Pakok area of Rat Burana District of Bangkok are living in fear after a notorious gang of illegal motorcycle racers, or “dek waen”, continued to gather and provoke authorities despite a recent police crackdown. The Metropolitan Police Division 8, acting on intelligence reports, raided a property behind Bang Pakok Market on 15 July. The location had reportedly become a hotspot for rowdy gatherings by teenage bikers, who had caused a constant nuisance in the area from 12–14 July. Following an order from Pol. Maj. Gen. Wasan Techakrakasem, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, an investigative team from Subdivision 3, Division 8, was dispatched to the site. Surveillance footage showed regular activity at the house, with motorcycles frequently seen entering and exiting, often carrying 7 to 10 youths who remained at the residence overnight before departing around midday. During the raid, seven individuals were found congregating at the property. All were detained and processed for criminal records. Two men, identified as Apinan 20 and Rawiphat 26, were found in possession of the illegal substance ketamine. Both were formally charged. The remaining five opted to enter voluntary rehabilitation. However, peace was short-lived. According to nearby residents, nearly 20 motorcycles returned to the area that very night, apparently regrouping at the same house in an act perceived as open defiance of law enforcement. The noise and commotion once again disturbed the neighbourhood, prompting renewed calls for urgent intervention. Pol. Maj. Gen. Wasan responded swiftly, instructing local police units to maintain strict surveillance and enforcement against groups involved in drug use and public disturbances. He warned that any lapse in diligence by local officers would result in disciplinary action. Residents remain shaken, with many expressing concerns about ongoing threats to their safety and quality of life. Authorities have pledged to intensify patrols and ensure that order is restored.
