I find it all quite astonishing that the idea that Thais couldn't have done this all very sad.

We read every day of what Thai's are capable of doing to each other and the lack of consideration they have for the consequences of their actions. Yet, in this case, it is back to the old propaganda of "he did it", because we are such loving, caring and compassionate people that we couldn't possibly do this to each other.

Not that I am surprised at the story, it is very hard to admit your own societal failures and far easier to point out someone else's failings. But then, who am I, I will put on my rose tinted specks and roam around this wonderfully united country.

Lets wait to see how many interrogations lead to subsequent arrests, perhaps the militant wing is already back in Cambodia, where Thai people go to hide.

The Black clad shooters are from Cambodia , there is now evidence to be released this week on who and why they were contracted for the job, The pay check Master Thaksin made his $$$$$$ deposit some months before this in the case he needed them to cross over into Thailand if he lost his money in the court ruling , Since 911 the world has a special practice of wire tap /cell phone word searching for key words, Thaksin made this list some 3 months ago and all of his evidence now will list him as the money leader behind the terrorism attacks now in Thailand .

he likes to say he has no connection but his mighty dollars linked the WAY

Could you a link a source to this information? First time I've heard this and I'd be interested to read more about it.

I understand it's the rumour-mill in action. Blaming problems on people over the border is a standard part of the Thai psyche, but don't forget there have been visits to Cambodia from both Thaksin and Seh Daeng.

The actions of the past week to me have proven once and for all that where there's speculation surrounding Thaksin intent (Suvarnabhumi city, land to Cambodia, Bangkok city "of flames" - wish I could find the original BKK Post article for that one - to name a very small number), the truth is never really far away. Hun Sen making peace with Abhisit could of simply been part of the script.

That plot related to the country of Finland, now I don't deny it for a second.

Too true - the red scourge say the black scourge has nothing to do with them. Fingers were pointed and innuendo rife as more and more the reds tried to 'convince' all and sundry they were neutral peaceful protestors. Were there mercenaries amongst them? Absolutely. Many of the failed army members, to get a decent pay day, were recruited by Seh Daeng and he also was part of it but, to a power higher up as someone had to pay him before they passed him up the chimney. :)

Politics and religion are the scourge of the earth and when they start employing mercs, and they care not where they come from. Was Cambo and Burma involved - probably. But when push came to shove and the trashing of Thailand started they were the red scum bags and probably as the mercs packed up and headed home. Their is no payday to dead mercs and the rioting had already been wound up in the uneducated ranks of the pawns being manipulated from on high. They did not need to be there and took advantage of the turmoil to disappear. But as long as there is a future payday, they will be back, rest assured. Money is a powerful motive. And mercs do not want a resolution or they will not get more paydays!

This is far from over yet and unfortunately as has been summarised already - this is going underground if they cannot demonstrate in the open and that is far more dangerous. :D

It will be easy for the Thai in the street to believe the black shirts are from Cambodia and Farangs lit the fires.

A friend of Chiang mai tells me whenever he sees a particularly stupid piece of driving, his wife tells him "not a Thai, from Burma".

In Bali, anyone doing anything bad, from bombing to scaming tourists, is always Javaman.

Peaceful redshirt protestors admiring violent, gun-toting arsonsist, who would have thought it?

The most stupid thing is who do they think a wrecked tourist industry will hurt? Rich people with piles of cash in the bank or the poor who depend on tourism for their income?

*************************

Exactly. I think I remember tourism makes up only 6% of the economy (which has dropped to nothing);however, this industry accounts for thousands of jobs for the young Thai and Isaan people that leave the rural life and come to the "big city" for jobs and/ or for more education. So though exports and agriculture remains strong this 6% DOES created IMPORTANT jobs to the "average Thai" - including the shops/businesss that were ruined in BKK by the Thugs. Note: The next time I ride in a BKK taxi, I do not want to hear the Isaan driver complain about "no business"... They were all supporting the Red Party movement with their red ribbons tied on their taxis, blocking the highways and such...

The Black clad shooters are from Cambodia ,

The first rumors were that the soldiers were Cambodian now it is the backshirts. Maybe no Thais were involved at all. Perhaps everyone on both sides was hired in Cambodia. :)

haha, now that would be nice way out!.

Quite possible they were communicating in cambodian, depending on what province they are from

I love to hear bad stuff about Thaksin, but I would also like to see some corroboration.

Me, too. I just watched the Youtube video with Thaksin and some Red Shirt leaders who have completely dropped themselves in the poo poo. Heads are gonna roll.

If history repeats itself, 1976 Thammasat University and the 1992 Massacre there will be an underground movement.

Again if history repeats itself most revenge attacks will be directed towards the Government,Military and their sponsors and not Tourists and civilians.

What may be of equal interest will be to see if revenge attacks are made against the red groups and not just by them. There are a lot of people across all social strata that have been hurt by them. This one may see revengfe form two different directions. Although I hope to be wrong on both accounts as neither are positive or democratric or justifiable

If there are any attacks in the aftermath, I think they would be directed at Suthep and Abhisit and/or their families in the form of a sniper / bomb attack. Although I hope this won't happen im afraid that sooner or later it will. They are the prime targets, not tourists etc

Equally you can ditto in Jatuporn, Nattawut etc. Right now everybosy is fixated on the revenge of the red shirts. Nobody is looking at revenge against them.

Lets hope nobody is targetted but if targetting starts I doubt severely it will work one way

Red cheerleaders repeat themselves.

Your one is to try to link the fights for liberation with the fight for Thaksin.

The first were a tragedy, the second is a farce.

Red supporters love to predict (wish for) things which they then indignantly deny they support.

True. They assasinated Sae Daeng, they could do the same for the rest.

The red leaders are probably safer behind bars than out in the wild if things get really ugly.

You are real Warm , Cambodia is the Key to his master plan, all the training was done there and bomb making so called experts, Crude but semi effective, There is evidence the assault team assembled in Pattaya for the past 3-4 months and no one ever noticed .

And we knew them as Pattaya SWAT. They would have got away with it too if it wasn't for that dam_n yellow Hummer.

looks like the cowards in black apparell I saw near BKK bank at Suk. 83 and near Lotus this past Wednesday, and dressed with their faces covered. Of course they didn't dare sport bright red. If they're in high numbers in Khlong Toey and from the slums, they're right in the backyard of the tourist area. Looks like the calm before the storm here, I sense it. I wish I could feel more optimistic, but that would be lying to myself. I am praying for peace especially when the demagogue leaders go on trial.

A few well-placed grenades thrown in Phuket or Pattaya would devastate tourism here. I'm expecting that to happen soon. Hope I'm wrong.

I hope the govt. is anticipating this..............it is logical.

The perpetrator of these events is way ahead of most posters.

He thinks one or two steps beyond the immediate.

He has excellent advisors.

He is fully aware this is an information war.

I know the govt. is aware of this given what is on TV and in the newspapers.

Having said that, I think the radical elements are scared, frustrated and and tired.

They are losing leadership (a very good thing the govt. has done).

I hope the govt. pulls the plug on the culture of hate that is being spread via TV and radio (there are limits to free speech).

I have lived here a long time now. I know that Thais keep things bottled inside..........frustration builds and builds and builds, eventually spilling out in some type of violence.

It seems this runs in cycles: 5 - 10 years.

I hope that nothing more will happen in the near future...........and Thais will allow the democratic process to work itself out.

Thais do seem to be trying to get back to some form of normalcy.............at least where I am living.

That is good news...........for potential tourists, please know that violence is not on every corner............far from it (you should not worry too much about it, especially outside of Bangkok).

Thailand has been wounded, but Thais will respond in a positive way.

:)

Im afraid lopburi is too near the mark for comfort.

It would be so easy to soft target some innocent tourists with random shootings, blame Dr Evil, and it would surely devastate whats left of tourism, would anyone care? They didnt care much about fleecing tourists before all this, countless examples of shakedowns and extorsion against westeners on this site alone

Mai pen rai :D
