Planning to spend a few days in this area but finding the web sites not that informative. Hoping for a sheltered beach so we can do some snorkeling. Smallish hotel/resort preferred. Did spend a few days, 2 years ago, at Bang Saphan but the ocean conditions were pretty choppy.Any personal experiences would be most welcome.

Check the weather beforehand. If the winds blowing there'll be a chop.

I stayed at this place:

ºéÒ¹¡ÃÙ´ ÃÒªÒÇ´Õ rachavadee bankrut

In Baan Kruit. Great place to relax and fantastic beach. Will you have a car? If so, lots of places south of there also. Just cruise around and you will find some neat hotels...which I am sure will be empty right now!

There is also a French resort on the south part of Bang Saphan....can't remember the name. It was OK. But the Rachavadee was much better.

Bang Saphan has just a very narrow beach and the swimming conditions are not good as the water is murky because of the mud and tress along the beach.

For swimming you better a little north to Ban Krut. Nice long beaches, clear water (although the weather can stir the sand up quickly).

For snorkeling both are not suitable unless you only want to see water. :)

Koh Talu is the nearest for snorkeling, i think it is the first place for snorkeling traveling south from Bangkok. Daytrips can be booked at any hotel and the place is very nice indeed. Again you have to be lucky with the weather, but that is true for almost all snorkeling sites.

Watch out for jelly fish. with some weather conditions there can be many.
