For information. We were at the Consulate in Shanghai this morning applying for my B visa and the family's O visas for our upcoming move to Bangkok.

We had printed out the visa application form from the Thai Consulate Shanghai website ("new" section) and filled them out (but mercifully not glued the photos to them).

The visa section rejected the forms as being "wrong format" and we had to recomplete what looked like an older (and simpler) version of the form (available from the consulate visa office) which resulted in having to go to the back of the queue. It didn't take too long as my wife queued while I wrote, but it could have added another hour to the waiting time if there hadn't been two of us there. Note also that copies of your passport photo pages are mandatory (people were being turned away for not having them).

On the plus side we were told that the visas would be ready tomorrow (we'll try on Friday).

On our way (hopefully).

Hi, thank you for the information.

Did you have to deal with thai or chinese staff?

Please keep us updated.

You're welcome. Both of the officers on duty were Chinese, the one that we dealt with kept dashing into the back office with documents and then coming back with a decision, presumably because she couldn't read Thai. I'll let you know whether the visas are granted later in the week.

All the best...

Visas all granted today with no problems. Just informed by our Thai company of a new (to me) requirement for conversion of B visa to work permit for a health certificate (from a Thai hospital or clinic only, not a Chinese one) showing that I am free from tertiary syphilis (aka Stage 3 syphilis). This is only for me, not the wife and kids (as was the HIV test to get my Chinese work permit).

It never ends.....
