More than 50 schoolchildren rushed to hospital after eating clams

PHITSANULOK: -- Fifty-one high school students from a girls school in Thailand's northern province of Phitsanulok were rushed to hospital with severe diarrhoea yesterday after eating what are thought to have been contaminated clams for their school lunch.

Dr. Thawatchai Kamoltham, Phitsanulok chief medical official, said that laboratory tests were now being conducted on samples of the clams, which the students from Chaloem Kwan Satri School had eaten fried clams for lunch the previous day.

Doctors placed 33 of the students on drips, while discharging the remainder.
