The wife came to town with me the other day, a rare event. I love shopping and she hates it.

As we drove into town on the Super Highway she said.

"When Central opens you won't need to go to Chiang Mai any more".

Now she said this the way any other woman would refer to regular trips to Pattaya or Angeles City. :ermm:

So what can we expect from Central? Will it destroy Big C? Will all those cute little cashiers be out of work? I love those girls that direct you to the less busy checkouts, I've never seen that in Central supermarkets.

I am looking forward to being able to park in big c in less than 10 minutes even on a monday morning, and having more than 3 uninspiring restaurants to choose from when central opens but reality, I don't think this "central" will be the same as Bangkok or Pattaya ones (haven't been to Chiang Mai) and I am wondering what we will actually get.

I am beginning to think they are coming here just for me as I can't say I have seen that many other HISO (especially farangs) around here!

:cheesy:

I'm hoping for a movie theater - with large screens and English. The Big C theater certainly fails in those departments. Chiang Mai's Major Cineplex in Airport Plaza rocks.

The Central Mall being built in CR is owned and managed by the same company who built/manage the other Central Malls so it should be on a par with them. Certainly would be nice to have a big-screen cinema and films in English, fingers crossed. Anyone know the estimated completion date?

Some competition in town for BIG C will certainly be healthy. Is it the place almost opposite with Lots of pileing's visable ? or is that Thailands answer to stonehenge ?

I wonder whether VF will keep to his tried & tested hunting ground of Big C or will he go for the bigger prey that Central will attract?

Bigger prey seem more likely to inhabit big C. Central and Robinsons seem to be full of the face lifted, eyes modified tummy tucked type of pretty thai female.

That reminds me. I got my first Business Card last week in BIG C. I'd seen the guy before but he must have run out of them I suppose. Anyway, I spotted him first, gave him the nod and half smile and got the blank stare back, all over withing the two or three seconds It normally takes me and I was on my merry way or so I hoped.

But No. He tapped me on the shoulder and enquired wether I was a resident and without waiting for me to engage brain and do the calculation he thrust his business card in my general direction. I've since lost it unfortunately. All in all a painless experience, nothing at all like being pounced on by that VF character :whistling::)

Surely the word 'pretty' shouldn't be used in the same sentence as 'face lifted, eyes modified and tummy tucked'?!

I'm always looking for new hunting grounds. One of those primitive instincts that I have yet to bring under complete control. I will be at Central with an eye on new conquests and bigger prey. :D

My wife has heard chatter among the staff in various shops that there is a target date of the middle of next year. I'll believe that when I see it. I suppose they could go for some kind of a soft-opening by then.

The Pattaya one was built very quick indeed, but there again when you actually can afford to use machinery rather than 40 cambodians with rakes, things do tend to go a little quicker.

Now that he has a target lock on you, you will get one everytime he sees you. I have also seen him at the market by Overbrook hospital. Just do like I did, I told him that he has gotten me already. Now when we see each other its a smile and a wave.

I prefer a good strong expresso based drink myself. If you are referring to the stuff I was served in restaurants while driving around the States on holiday, I might suggest adding three parts water to that bitter swill and it might approximate that taste you are looking for.

That would be the stuff I am talking about
