Having lived in many countries, I think I could easily say that you can get just about everything you would need here in Thailand, (certainly Bangkok), and if you can't you can buy an equivalent, or learn to live without. And the key is just that: learn to adapt. You'll find your lifestyle doesn't diminish significantly without [fill in the blanks].

Toys for your pool. Silverware. High quality bed linen, including pillows. Good coffee maker. Blender. Electronics. If there are any particular cooking spices you really enjoy. WINE! All of these, except pool toys, can be found here...but expensive....

Ha, ha...my fondest memory of my first trip to Thailand was playing pool (billiards) with all these cute girls wearing short skirts. I firmly believe if you have a pool table in Thailand, a girl automatically come with it!

I initially wanted some of those "spaghetti" foam thingies for my wife to hang on while in the pool. Did a search for pool toys...man, what a choice of stuff. My favorite is a floating chair with built in beer holder...gotta get one of those. Unfortunately, can't find them in Thailand!

If you get the pool table why do you need a chair to hold your beer when the girl who came with the table would surely hold your beer and get another before it is finished. clap2.gif

BBQ's: There is a good (Gas) BBQ shop on Sukhumvit 39 called 'The BBQ Store' (do a google search for BBQ Thailand).

They sell Aussie Barbecues Galore barbies and bundy rum, bit expensive though (both).

www.bbqthai.com.

I bought one of these BBQ's at True Value Hardware, for the month of April they had a store wide 25% discount for members, I picked it up for 16,000b.

I brought everything in my house and garage in a 20 foot container and it was delivered right to my front door without ever being opened. I did use a shipping agent. The only thing I did not load into the container was my golf cart as my shipping agent advised me against it. AND yes I brought my all stainless gas BBQ. This can only be done once by a Thai citizen.post-32989-016787800 1277602250_thumb.jp

if you want specialist things then you have to pay extra here like mountain bikes etc,

have a look at the classifieds section you'll get an idea of what things are available and the prices they cost new.

there's some good shopping here in thailand but as i say not for specialized stuff and there's no on-line shopping same as uk etc so you gotta pay full price for everything.

if you tall with big feet etc you will struggle for clothes.

if your buying from new and bringing here you will lose guarantees etc ?

motorbikes hold there prices here so maybe can bring second hand bike with you ? maybe can re-register.

make a list of what your thinking/use a lot of currently and post it people can say better.

i came to thailand with a pair of flippers and some clothes - i lost a load of weight so clothes don't even fit any more !

things like gillette razors cost more here but maybe your thinking of trying to bring things with you that you can't get here rather than doing it to save some money ? do you have tesco in australia pretty well the shops are identacle to ones in the u.k but somethings are more expensive, there's home pro for diy stuff that's good quality and can get almost everything i think, big cities have loads of shopping and you can get good linens etc you just need to know where to get stuff from once you find your feet, i shouldn't rush into trying to do everything asap cos you'll just make mistakes and pay extra etc.

also depends where you are in thailand some places have good shopping some not much selection.

tesco's everywhere so can always get things from there to get started.
