My son, who has a Thai and US passport is planning to travel to Egypt in July. He entered Thailand on his Thai passport last month. Since you can get a visa to enter Egypt at the airport if you hold a US passport I told him to depart Thailand showing his Thai passport and use his US passport when entering Egypt. Does anyone see any problem doing this?

No problem at all, did the same with my wife a few months ago when going to Cairo...

At the check in : show both passport as he needs to prove he can stay in Thailand without visa (Thai passport) and enter Egypt with Visa on Arrival (US passport)
Thai immigration : show Thai passport
Egypt Immigration : show US passport, before you have to buy the visa on arrival sticker, 15US$, there is a window right before the immigration lanes

When go back, at check in you will have to show both passports as need to prove he can stay in thailand without visa
