Army Will Respond with Full Force as Cambodian Attacks Intensify

The Royal Thai Army has declared it will use its full military capability to respond to ongoing Cambodian aggression, as cross-border hostilities continued into their fourth day.

Major General Winthai Suvaree, spokesman for the Thai Army, said on 27 July, that Cambodian forces have repeatedly fired long-range artillery and rockets into Thai territory, with many munitions landing far from legitimate military targets, including several areas in Surin province. Among the weapons identified are BM-21 Grad systems and RM-70 multiple rocket launchers, raising serious concerns about further escalation.

“In response to sustained artillery and rocket attacks, the Thai military is obliged to undertake appropriate operations to neutralise these threats and protect civilians,” said Major General Winthai. “Our actions remain targeted at military threats only, in accordance with international rules of engagement.”

A particularly alarming incident occurred on 26 July at around 15.30, when Cambodian shells struck a sub-district health centre in Ban Sam Meng, Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province. The building suffered severe damage, though no casualties were reported due to the prior evacuation of patients and staff.

Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Cambodia has shown no sign of halting its offensive. According to Thai authorities, there is credible intelligence indicating the possibility of further deployment of advanced weapons by Cambodian forces, such as the more powerful PHL-03 system, further eroding trust between the two nations.

In a significant development on the morning 27 July, the Royal Thai Army deployed VT-4 main battle tanks in active combat operations. The tanks’ mission is to counter Cambodian incursions and disrupt supply lines supporting enemy forces along the border.

Military sources have confirmed the Thai Army’s ongoing efforts focus solely on neutralising military threats, with strict measures taken to minimise civilian harm. The Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Thailand’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens.

Oh good, plus now Hun Sen is a viable target.

Frontline Focus: ‘ Gen Hing Bun Hieng,’ Hun Sen's trusted ally

Later that evening, former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen posted on Facebook to refute Thai media reports claiming he had fled to China. In his statement, he declared, “I am actively commanding the military through video and other systems alongside the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, the Commander-in-Chief, and all levels of armed forces to fight back against the invading Thai forces. I have not fled anywhere.” Hun Sen, Cambodia’s first and only five-star general, asserted his authority and reassured the Cambodian people that he remained firmly in charge of the military operations.

They are on hiding to nothing.....the scary part, however, is if China decides to step into the mix........but I don't see what they would gain, unless they in effect took over Cambodia in its entirety, but even then.......???

I do not think this is all Cambodias fault. I think Thailand is pushing them as well. I think the Thaksin family is also behind it all. The Thai generals finally have a target other than local civilians so at least that is a good thing.

you are guessing as like most of us on here we do not know why people do things like this.

Sam Rainsy, Cambodia’s finance minister from 1993 to 1994 gave an interesting view on why this is happening, suggesting criminal networks, not patriotism is behinf this war

Sam Rainsy is embittered because he can't return to Cambodia as he will be arrested. Take anything he says with a very large pinch of salt.

This has all been stirred up because Thaksin is facing probes into his fake illnesses, his family's dealings with Hun Sen and the LM charges against him. He's losing his grip on power.

He needs this for all that to go away. Wouldn't be surprised if Hun Sen was playing along for his good mate.

And lost the land on the border? A very dubious conspiracy.

What people are forgetting is that Thailand is now facing border issues with almost all its neighbors. The Myanmar border is closed due to fighting between rebels and the government. In the south, there are tensions with the Muslim population.

Now, Cambodia is causing problems by banning Thai imports. The closed Myanmar border has hurt the economy in Thailand’s northwest, and Cambodia’s ban adds more strain. This creates economic hardship and internal tension in Thailand. Neither Thailand nor Cambodia has trade deals with the U.S., and ASEAN cooperation may be weakening, with some countries facing higher U.S. export tariffs.

Remember, everything the military does in Thailand favors the generals and its leaders who are mostly pro-China stance. The current "Thaksin-led" government is US backed. If the Thai military rises from the ashes because of this conflict, I'd suspect something bigger could be in for the long-term.

Could this be a deliberate attempt to destabilize the region?

What do you base that on? In reality this is about two temples that the focus is upon. Prasat Ta Muen Thom is located on the Thai side of the border, and Prasat Preah Vihear is located on the Cambodian side of the border. If you go after the border that is set, that will say. Where more do you find right or wrong? We can say like this. 2 buildings out of 3 of Ta Muean Thom is on the Thai side of the border. That will get it more correct, but that´s not what´s wrong.

What is wrong here, is that Cambodia has attacked civilian targets like convenient store, hospital and villages. They should back off or feel the full force of the Thai military power. They just don´t stand a chance.

Protect the dictatorship's money supply to Hun Sen family & other rich Cambodian families.  Thaksin's drive to get a casino & go after scam centres an existential threat to the lucrative money supply for the filthy rich of Cambodia.   So this direct attack on his wealth resulted in the collapse in the friendship between Thaksin & Hun Sen.  A probable scenario.

Did you read the Sam Rainsy article? If you look at the history of Thailand and Cambodia, they both have lost land over the centuries as have Malaysia, Loas, Burma Vietnam.

There is no ceasefire, they have agreed to talks at the earliest on Monday.

trump said he called both of them last night and offer to be a deal maker, trump claimed they agreed and would stop the fighting, I guess once again the master of the deal didn't make a deal besides saying that he will not make a deal about the tariffs until they stop, anybody can/could do that, no need to be a master of the deal

Ok, was that decisions that both countries agreed upon, or accepted at the time? As it led to peace in both cases, then one might assume so.

Totally agree.  Trump is a first class kn0b and should stop putting his beak in where its not warranted.  Even his own tweet basically admitted he is in this for himself.  I supported his election both times, but gees he is acting like a real <deleted> this time around.

Trump never said ceasefire talks have started. He said he'd talked to Cambodia and Thailand. My wife tells me that the Thai sentiment is that the armed forces should hit Cambodia a lot harder. As for the VT4 this is a Chinese MBT of which Thailand has 60 units.

Cambodia and Thailand have not agreed to a ceasefire. Trump is now threatening to suspend trade talks on tariffs with Thailand, not what he would do if a ceasefire was in place.

How's Trump's promise to end the war in Ukraine going? Israel vs Hamas ? USA vs Iran?

Nobel Peace Prize? You've swallowed so much MAGA Koolaid it must be spurting from all orifices.

Hun Sen has already sold his soul to the Devil for money. Nothing would surprise me from him.

Thaksin (and by extension his daughter and his party) needs this distraction and the border land dispute has been used before several times by Thai governments in trouble notably in 2008 after the judicial coup and in 2011.

The reaffirmation of the ICJ ruling in 2013 led to the Thai troop withdrawal.

Yet here we are again, history repeating itself.
