Marriage Visa Conditions

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Much to some people's surprise I do have friends, and I wonder of anyone here can clarify this position?

A visa was issued in the US on the basis of marriage to a Thai citizen, who was the living with them in the US. Upon arrival here with the aim of moving here permanently [the container followed] they have happily set up home. However the other day looking at the passport they realised that they had been stamped in for 90 days [AFAIK the visa is 1 year O multi-entry] and decided to go to the land border where they were issued another 90 days and advised to 'run again' if they were in country for 89 days.

I was under the impression that the only non-imm that required the 90 days 'run' was a B? Have things changed? Did they get the 'wrong' visa in the US [Royal Thai Embassy], what happens when they wishe to extend the permission to stay in country, will it be 90 days at a time [1 year visa]?

TIA

Regards

A Non Imm O Visa Multi Entry gives multiple entries of up to 90 days each. This can give up to 15 months but needs a border run every 90 days.

If applying for a 12 month extension in Thailand there would be no need to exit the country.

If you are talking about a man these are the qualifications for a 12 month extension.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Thanks for the prompt reply. When applying for the 12 month extension of permission to stay in Thailand, would this still be on a 90 day basis?

No it would be 12 months.

If wanting to leave Thailand for a holiday etc. A Re Entry Permit would be needed.

Thanks again, for both the prompt reply and clarity.

But you still have to report to your local immigration office every 90 days, you can do the report by post.

If you want to leave Thailand and return, single re-entry permit 1000bht, multiple re-entry permit 3,600bht.

Almost correct. 3,800 Baht.

It you do not leave in a 90 day period you must report your address using form TM.47 in person, by mail, or have some take for you. A new entry resets counter to day one.
