Oz Visa

Greetings all,

I intend to apply for the standard tourist visa for my teerak in the next month. I've been keeping the email messages but just realised that mine are in english and hers are in thai.

When I present these emails for the application should I have them translated into english? even though the english translation is sometimes a shocker and harder to understand than thai.

Unlike permanent visas documents submitted in Thai (in Thailand) do not need to be translated into English for a tourist visa.

One would suggest that supplying the content would give more information, after all you can put any heading on an email.

For the OP....you dont need to supply all the emails....just supply a good representation. half a dozen or so from throughout the relationship.

Hi GB,

it is my understanding that previously documents in Thai submitted in Thailand for a 676 visa needed to be translated into English. This has no longer been a requirement for well over a year now. Other offshore posts may of course have different rules.

In the last year I have not encountered any problems in submitting documents in Thai for 676 visas.

What have other peoples experiences been?

My take on this would be to submit an application that is as complete as possible, for this reason I would suggest that the applicant provide translations in line with the checklist given by Immigration. While the Bangkok Embassy may have relaxed this, it is still a requirement of the Department of Immigration in Oz. Better safe than sorry.

I just emailed DIAC at the Australian Embassy, Bangkok and received an instant reply:

English translation is not required for 676 visa (Thai citizen).

So while it may not be required by the Embassy in Bangkok, it sure as heck isnt going to hurt or hinder the application if it is supplied. Would you agree?

It certainly wont hinder an application - I agree with that GB.

At the end of the day the Australian Embassy, Bangkok doesn't require Thai documents to be translated for 676 visas. If anyone wants to have them translated and submitted with the application, then that is certainly their prerogative.

On a side issue, be wary of any agent that charges fees for document translations, keeping in mind that it is currently not a requirement. The going rate for document translations is between 500 to 600 baht per page +/- (depending on the document). I know of some agents that charge over 1000 baht per page. Not a bad little money earner for something that is totally unnecessary.
